Bridport Youth Football Club Roundup
FIRST FINAL FOR BRIDPORT YOUTH UNDER 10s
Bridport Youth under 10s became the first Bridport team for several years to reach a Final in the Dorset County Cup competition.
The Under 10s won a penalty shoot-out 4-3 after a 2-2 draw after extra time.
At least 60 supporters attended a game was that it was an excellent advert for youth football.
The game was end to end from the start of this contest to the finish, every player was committed strong and determined. Dorchester Raiders are a great team, two and a half years ago they beat Bridport 5-0.
Good passing between Cole Lydon and Morgan Napier set Lydon free and he finished with aplomb hitting the ball into the roof of the net. Just before half time the Raiders equalised.
Elliot Crabb, Finlay Davy and Ryan Leader full of running and the midfield battle would determine the outcome of this game. Manny Cox and Lydon taking control of this enthralling game. Raiders took a second half lead but heads did not drop and Bridport had to dig in deep
Fitness told in the closing stages and it was all out attack. The home teams pressure paid off and the ball ended up in the back of the net from a corner to send us into extra time. Both teams hit the bar and there were some amazing goal mouth scrambles but the score remained the same. Penalties followed.
Grant was outstanding saving three and Bridport triumphed 4-3 with Oscar Tompkins winning the sudden death kick.
In other Semi Final results, The Under 11’s were beaten at home 1-2 by Broadstone. After being 0-2 at half time Bridport staged a superb fightback. James Cox scored a stunning drive of the underside of the crossbar, and then after a spell of concerted pressure, with 5 minutes to play, Bridport were controversially denied an equaliser with an offside decision.
Bridport’s Under 12’s were also denied a final place when they lost at home 1-2 to Corfe Mullen United.
The weather claimed most other games. Bridports under 16s were in league action and lost 1-2 to Bournemouth Sports
