Of the fixtures that survived the weather - Bridport’s Youth teams had a successful weekend.

Bridports Under 14s booked a place in the Semi Final of the Dorset Cup with a 3-1 away Victory at Corfe Mullen.

Corfe went ahead when the unfortunate Mckenney slipped in goal to allow a simple tap in for the home teams no 10 to finish. However Bridport were then in control for most of the match. Dylan Allen started a move from the back that ended with Rhys Hayter who’s brilliant lob hit the far post and nestled into the net for a quick equaliser.

Bridport had several other chances, including efforts from Hayter and Kyle Napier that were saved in superb style by the Corfe Keeper. Freddy Woolner was dangerous all afternoon and he was chopped down in the area when clean through for a stone wall penalty decision.  Hayter planted the penalty in the bottom corner for a deserved lead at half time 2-1.

Bridport had to soak up a little pressure before getting a grip on the game and actually defied the conditions for a 15 minute spell playing some brilliant football. Woolner sealed the victory with ten minutes to go with a clinical finish under the keeper to take the Under 14s to their first semi final.

In league action Bridports Under 11s continued their unbeaten run with a 9-2 victory at Wool & Winfrith. Although they went behind early on they started playing great football and equalised through James Cox. George Wyril, Harrison Tuck and Callum Tuck all scored before the break to make the half time score a fair reflection of Bridport’s possession.

Harry Tompkins and Wyrill made a menace of themselves up front, with Callum, Cox, Will Clarke and Harrison doing well in the middle of the park. The back 4, Charlie Legg-Bagg, Jack Luscombe, Luke Robertson and Adam Davies once settled did what was asked of them. Jordan Nottley commanded his area when called upon with some good decision making.

Some changes were made in the second half and some new faces in the team. Cox completed his hat-trick and Jacob Ireland grabbed 2 and Harrison Tuck rounded off the scoring in the last few minutes.

Bridports Under 10s had a very impressive victory at Poole Town Wessex and came away with 3 points and a 3-1 victory. The weather was poor, the pitch heavy but playable. Bridport started slowly but improved and were impressive causing Poole all sorts of problems.

The first goal came with an individual piece of brilliance from Manny Cox who picked the ball up on the right side of midfield beat several of their players and drove towards their goal line, cut in towards goal and the let fly with an unstoppable shot that flew high into the net.

Morgan Napier works tirelessly for the team up front and was rewarded with two goals. Both his goals were scored with aplomb following excellent team work to create the opportunities.

The second half saw Bridport under some pressure as Poole came forward. Elliot Crabb was simply outstanding in the centre of defence. He was the first to everything. Poole scored on a counter attack. The ball cannoning in off the striker from the Bridport Keepers clearance

This was again a great team performance of which all the lads can be very proud of their endeavours. As their manager said to me it is all about commitment and we had it.

In other results Bridports Under 10 Jets has an impressive 7-0 away victory at West howe. Bridport  welcomed back their captain, Josh Craven, after nearly 2 months out through injury. Starting in determined fashion there was only 4 mins on the clock when Ryan Harvey struck at the far post to give Bridport an early advantage.

Josh Craven scored two goals from carbon copy free kicks that flew into the back of the net.

Into the second half and Bridport maintained their momentum – Marcus Burt on as a substitute fired home to grab his first and Bridport’s fourth. Scott to sweep home Bridport’s fifth.

Bridport kept going and their reward was 2 more goals, both from the boot of Burt – and a well deserved hat-trick for the amount of running he put in.

Bridport Under 13 Wanderers beat Sturminster Marshall at Symondsbury 3-2 and the Under 12s returned to the top of the league continuing their fine form with a 4-1 win against Gillingham town.
