Bripdort Youth FC Roundup 27th November 2011.
Bridport Under 9s starred in a thrilling draw at Bere Regis on Sunday. In a high tempo game, the bees were behind early on but roared back with two super strikes from Michael Bodycombe and Harrison Weeks. As the game went from end to end, the home team stepped up and scored two goals before half time to lead 3-2.
Bridport would not give up and equalised just after the break with a well taken secong goal by Weeks. Bere Regis had several chances and should have punished Bridport, but the visitors held firm and started to play good football of their own. The remainder of the half was exiting and the game could have gone either way with chances at both ends.
Bere Regis looked to have won it at the death with a late, late goal and this would have been cruel on a hard working Bridport team. However with the last kick of the game Jay Pattinson Smith scored to end a fantastic game. Smith takes the Man Of the Match award for a tireless display.
Bridports Under 14s lost their unbeaten status with a disappointing defeat to top-of the table Gladiators. Bridport were in almost total control in the first half and should have really led by a few goals at the break but for poor finishing. Luke Ward Jones had to make the only save of the first half early in the game which was a good double save.
After that Bridport created many opportunities and it looked as if there was only one team in it. Liam Sayers scored a drilled shot after good work from Freddy Woolner and an Assist from Owen Ward. Sayers then provided a superb diagonal ball to put Woolner in the clear and his clever lofted effort rolled agonisingly wide of the far post.
A Huge goal kick from Ward Jones cleared the visitors defence and Sayers raced through but his rolled finish grazed the outside of the post and trickled wide.
Bridport had several other opportunities and forced 5 corners but could not add to the lead.
On a counter attack a free kick was awarded on the edge of the area and the visitors dead ball expert place the ball perfectly into the top corner for an undeserved equaliser on the stroke of half time.
In the second half Bridport were poor, and after several chances to go into the lead they went behind after some poor defending.
Two own goals followed before Sayers scored a second goal for a final score of 4-2.
