The Pickwicks are the brainchild of Bridport guitarist, singer and songwriter Declan Duffy. The constraints of the acoustic singer-songwriter format, allied to a wide set of influences, have always encouraged Declan to broaden the scope of his music as much as possible. Principal influences are The Stone Roses, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Atlantic/Stax and other old soul, the Happy Mondays/Black Grape, film scores and The Pogues, to name only a few (along with a lifelong love of old country music, but only the most real, of course).
Based in the Rebel West Country, contrasting Jake Zennaman's folk background with innovative restylings of classic tracks and less heard but no less regarded covers, using just acoustic guitar, harmonica and a strong vocal presence to bring a boxing clever set of songs designed to proke and evoke while the drinks go down, you'll be refreshed and entertained by smart unpretentious music drawing from a wide range of influences, experiences and styles. This is a novel yet never novelty live act guaranteed to widen your eyes. On the road to a venue near you."

They are in the process of raising money in order to secure the Lyric Theatre, who have generously allowed them to use the space for a small fee. They hope that with a little town spirit, they can create something which will bring some more attention to Bridport's wonderful music scene, and from what they told me, it promises to be something rather special. I caught up with the pair to find out a little more...
