ImagePeggy the Kingcombe Centre’s saddleback sow is digging the foundations of The Centre’s carbon foot print reducing, power saving refurbishment.  The Centre renowned for its excellent quality environmental education, courses and a long held ethos of sustainability is taking another sustainable step this winter by refurbishing an existing building to increase comfort and energy efficiency.

Alongside this are plans to reduce dependency on fossil fuels, link itself even further to the pristine countryside surrounding it and promote green technology.

The refurbishment will involve the development of a double storey oak framed conservatory for passive solar gain. The fitting of a wood burning boiler, which will make use of the traditional hedgerow management waste products. Installation of solar water heating and photovoltaic cells to fuel pumping and ventilation of the building.
Pauline Lowry, the Centre Director said “This is an excellent way to kick start our 20th anniversary in 2008 and produce an exemplar development with an all round approach; there is no other in the region. It reinforces our long held sustainable ethos and will make our visitors comfortable in a way that isn't costing the earth”

How can you help? The centre is looking for further donations, business sponsorship or fund raising activities. Donation forms and further information can be downloaded from the website www.kingcombecentre.org.uk and if they are gift aided by tax payers are worth an extra 28 pence in every £ too.
