CRIME UPDATE 13 NOV E-mail

Theft of purses

Over the last month there have been a number of thefts of purses reported to us. On at least two occasions items were stolen from staff in shops in town. Other

Don’t make it easy for the thief and become a victim.

reports relate to where handbags and purses have been left on display whilst the owners have been in bars and pubs in town.

Simple measures can be taken to prevent you becoming a victim of an opportunist thief. I would ask that if you are employed in a store or shop, secure your personal items out of sight and preferably in an area that can be locked.

If you are socialising in a pub or bar, keep your valuables with you. If possible in both situations leave your valuables at home.

Over the last week 9 arrests were made:

1 x Common assault
1x Assault actual bodily harm
2 x Burglary
1 x Criminal damage
2 x Theft
1 x Positive breath test
1 x Possession of controlled drugs

Bridport Police Charity Ball

This is the last week leading up to the Bridport Police charity ball, this is a community event and you are invited participate in the event, which will be held on Saturday November 24th at Freshwater Holiday Park from 730pm.

ImageLast year over 180 people danced the night away to fabulous music from local band The Sidekicks, in a venue transformed by a local video projections artist and illuminated flags to create a real party atmosphere.  Over a £1000 was raised for local good causes, including children’s nurseries, youth projects, elderly and disabled drop in centres.

I’d personally like to thank all those who donated prizes for the auction and raffle and ask that any similar donations would gratefully received to raise money once again.

The ball is a great community event, and I’d like once again to thank everyone who came along last year and joined us again the fun and to come along again. Tickets are on sale at the tourist information office in Bridport and at Bridport Police station priced at £21. The band again will be the Sidekicks and more slapstick video projections are promised.

P.A.C.T Meeting

The next Partners and Community Together [P.A.C.T] meeting is due to take place at the town hall Bridport 7.30pm on Thursday 13th December.
This again will be an opportunity for the Bridport community to raise issues of concern within the town and vote for the priorities to be tackled by the relevant lead agency.

The previous top 3 priorities were

• Anti Social behaviour / truancy issues in Rivervale
• Police response / call handling
• Underage drinking

If you have issues that the P.A.C.T panel consisting of the WDDC, Town Council, Police and Youth services. Other agencies are key members of the process and will be involved should a priority be deemed a responsibility for their organisation.

If you have any information regarding the above offences or any other crimes, then please come forward and help us with our enquiries:  it may be your evidence, which successfully secures a conviction.  Instead of accepting that crime is part of the Bridport society, let’s give the courts the facts and allow them to decide.

Contact the police station direct, or speak to Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111 – all calls will be treated in confidence
