Words, words, words - From Friday 9 to Saturday 17 November 2007 venues throughout Bridport and West Bay are hosting the third literary festival, Bridport Prize Live.
Bridport Arts Centre director, Lindsay Brooks said, ‘Bridport Prize Live heralds the announcement of one of the most influential prizes for both poetry and short story writing. Our run up to the award of the Bridport Prize now forms a fascinating festival with its own flavour, influenced by its location in venues in and around our ancient Dorset town.
Roger McGough
‘We are delighted Don Paterson and Tracy Chevalier have agreed to judge, respectively, the poetry and short story categories. We have had a record number of entries this year and the winners will be announced on Saturday 17 November as the Festival’s finale.’
Patron of the Bridport Prize, author Fay Weldon said, ‘Mention the Bridport Prize and the eyes of writers everywhere light up. It's not just the money - though that's not to be sneezed at - it's a prize really worth fighting for in terms of prestige and genuine literary accomplishment.’
Names from the literary world who will be appearing at Bridport Prize Live include Roger McGough, Clarissa Eden, Sir Max Hastings, Katharine Whitehorn and Elvis McGonagall.
