RESILIENCE E-mail

ImageDoes anyone have any idea what a communities structural resilience capability is? If you said "It's how a community anticipates, prevents, prepares for, responds and recovers from emergencies" you are on the right track...

What do you think that it might mean for Bridport? Let us not talk Catacalism, just simple fuel or power shortages, and the knock on consequences.

To give you an idea of this philosophy; did you know that Supermarkets only have two days food supply at any one time?

see here for more info http://www.ukresilience.info/ (UK Resilience is a subsidiary of central government's Cabinet Office)

Opinions today are all to easy to shoot out the sky As we shoot from the hip from our own secular points of view. Opinion means much to each and every individual, and there are about 6 billion to choose from, I should know, this is one of them!! Transition Town, Muesli belt or not, is linked up to about 50 other towns and one city so far. It may not yet carry much weight to itself and its ideologies may well be somewhat 'idealistic' set against the realities of this fast moving contemporary social climate , but in time its credibility and possibilities may grow(they may even have to) Change is inevitable here. Whether we are taxed to death and coerced By national govt or by whatever means we have available to us. A show of opinionated personalised stereotype prejudices, surely does not address the problems that these individuals and groups are attempting to address. I personally cannot see the 6 billion or so opinions wants and needs on this plane of ours being satisfied, without some sort of turmoil in the not so distant future. Job, trust fund, social benefit, hunter-gatherer or what ever..... And that is putting it mildly. To me, the sums and totals of humanities demand of world resourses, do not match with what is truly available.

Morrisons doesn't even have two days supply some days. Go down there on a Friday night and they're right out of cider! The decent stuff that is not the chemically fizzed cak.

lol@man with badge, It's another pretentious way of saying that Bridport Radio contributers are small brained idiots who don't appreciate Sartre!

So just to get this straight rhinocore, you have expressed an opinion about opinions on a website that invites peoples opinions, on a thread that specifically asks for an opinion, yet your opinion is that opinions are a waste of time which in my opinion is the waste of a good opinion opportunity.

You got me there, all I was tryin to do was be pretentious! really, I was ! I was just interested in peoples ideas thoughts and facts about Bridports community ability when it comes to dealing with emergency situation,s and how prepared we are. People in Tewekesbury are still living in caravans outside their houses. We all seem very clever and able to pipe and snipe, we are clever enough to at least look at the issues and opinions being expressed, I am all very new to this kind of 'communication' here. Sartre Fantastic or not.

NOT!

It maybe that the people in Tewksbury are just returning to their pikey roots by living in caravans. The Bridport way to cope with a disaster would be to have a party, (does anyone remember the great fire of 2003 when the Ropeys burnt down, that was the bridport spirit, people out on the street quaffing wine and having fish and chips)
