ROCK THROWING WEST BAY
Police officers at Bridport are appealing for witnesses to an incident that took place at East Cliff in West bay at about 5; 30 pm on Saturday 22nd September.
The lady was with her husband, two small children and friends enjoying the afternoon sat on the beach at West Bay, they were about 300 yards from the East Cliff Car park in the Weymouth direction, when a rock described as being the size of a Grapefruit hit her on the shoulder.
Witnesses on the beach saw young people looking over the cliff and had previously reported stones being thrown from the cliff top into the sea.
A couple walking down the cliff reported seeing a male aged about 30, with dark short hair, about 5' 7'' tall walking with three young lads and a black and tan or white collie type dog. Police would like to trace this group, as they may be able to help with enquiries into this incident.
Coast Guard Helicopter took the lady to Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester where she received treatment for her injuries. Enquires were made in the East Cliff area of West Bay during the evening, local residents and holiday makers have been extremely helpful providing information which led to a couple who had been walking down the cliff coming forward with vital information.
Police are appealing for more information, which will lead to the identification of the male and three youths.
The Local beat officer Police Constable Caroline Orchard said " This was a very serious incident which could have been far worse than it has turned out, luckily the lady has not suffered any lasting injury, but it does not bear thinking about what could have happened. The children came very close to being robbed of their mother” The throwing of any object from the top of the cliffs could kill someone and it is only luck that we are not carrying out a murder enquiry. We would appeal to any one with information to contact Bridport Police station on 01305 22 22 22, or via Crime stoppers.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
On Thursday 20th September damage was caused at the Bradford Football Club whereby offender/s removed a tin of magnolia paint from a storeroom and threw it over the external doors at the club. Due to the nature of the incident it is likely that the offenders would have been covered to some degree in this colour of paint. If anyone has information relating to this offence please contact Pc Evans at Bridport Police station.

Last year over 180 people danced the night away to fabulous music from local band The Sidekicks, in a venue transformed by a local video projections artist and illuminated flags to create a real party atmosphere. Over a £1000 was raised for local good causes, including children’s nurseries, youth projects, elderly and disabled drop in centres.
I’d personally like to thank all those who donated prizes for the auction and raffle and ask that any similar donations would gratefully received to raise money once again.
The ball is a great community event, and I’d like once again to thank everyone who came along last year and joined us again the fun and to come along again.
Tickets will be on sale at the tourist information office in Bridport and at Bridport Police station priced at £21. PC 2232 Scott McGregor Community Beat Officer
