CRIME UPDATE 21 AUG E-mail

Crimes reported to Bridport over the last 7 days include:

• Overnight Tuesday 14th August a diesel cement mixer was stolen from a building site in Lee lane.
• Criminal damage to stationary a vehicle occurred overnight Tuesday 14th August in the area of Allington Mead.
• Again overnight 14th August damage occurred to a stationary vehicle in South Street. This time the Mercedes emblem was snapped off and stolen.
• Over the week leading up to Friday 17th August approximately £170 in coins was stolen from a fruit machine, after it was forced open in the Tanners public house.

Other crimes have been reported over the same period of time, however in the interests and wishes of the victims and not to prejudice any investigations these will not be reported on.

Carnival

I’d like to thank all who attended and took part in the carnival and in particular the carnival committee for all of their hard work. There were however a number of incidents which could have potentially marred an enjoyable night.
These were reports of coin throwing which a number of people received minor injuries, which happened during the procession.
There were a number of other incidents in the early hours when Police were called to attend reports of a fight involving 3 men outside the Royal Oak. One man aged in his 20’s from Beaminster was arrested and fined for a public order offence.
In another unrelated incident a 20yr old woman from Bridport was arrested for assault. She was cautioned for the offence.

Melplash Show

The Melplash Agricultural society will hold it’s annual show in the fields to the west of the West Bay Road on Thursday 23rd of August. The event will run from 10am to 6pm. Public visiting the event will only be allowed access via the A35 at the Swallowdale Nursery.
Stewards will not allow non-event vehicular traffic to enter the showground via the West Bay road and you will have to follow the relevant directions to take you to the public entrance.
Signage and directions for spectators’ vehicles will be in place giving appropriate warning to all road users.

On a final note I hope that public and participants alike enjoy the events taking place in the Bridport area.
Anti social behaviour in any form that could spoil the events will not be tolerated, officers will act robustly if needed to prevent or arrest anyone spoiling these important events in the Bridport calendar.

Over the last week 11 arrests were made:

2 x public disorder offences
1 x theft
2 x assault actual bodily harm
1 x positive breath test drink driving
1 x criminal damage
1 x theft from motor vehicle
1 x recall to prison
2 x common assault

If you have any information regarding the above offences or any other crimes, then please come forward and help us with our enquiries:  it may be your evidence, which successfully secures a conviction.  Instead of accepting that crime is part of the Bridport society, let’s give the courts the facts and allow them to decide.
Contact the police station direct, or speak to Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111 – all calls will be treated in confidence
