B.L.A.P. ACTION PLAN E-mail

The Bridport Local Area Partnership (BLAP) will launch the first review of its area Action Plan at the Melplash Show this week. BLAP. which is a community partnership between Bridport Town council, eight local parish councils and about eighty local organisations and individuals, published its first Action Plan earlier this year following two periods of public consultation in 2006.

The Plan identified a number of key actions for the current year which are already being implemented. These included the establishment of a community-based health forum, which was established in March 2007 and which has already held two open meetings, and action to improve skills training in the area, which is being actively pursued by the BLAST Group. The Partnership also offers support to a wide range of local organisations, projects and parish councils.

BLAP is now seeking the views of the area community on its priorities and planned activities for the years 2008-2010, and a questionnaire has been published which is being circulated this week to all member organisations and parish councils and which will also be available at the BLAP stand at the Melplash Show (in the Bridport Marquee near the Blue Entrance on West Bay Road).

Partnership Chairman Charles Wild said, "We hope people will come along to the stand and talk to members of our Steering Group, and also complete a form to let us know what they think should be our priorities for the next couple of years. It is important that we have people's views, in order to strengthen our influence on local authorities and service providers to improve delivery of services in the area." Those unable to get to the Melplash Show can obtain copies of the consultation form from the Town Council office at Mountfield (or online). The consultation lasts until 30 September 2007.

I suggest that if you want to Get On With It you stand for election on The Town Council. Perhaps you don't have enough Time On Your Hands. I imagine you are young, possibly male, activist tendencies and surely not a Middle-Class-Idiot?

I've never read such a pile of absolute and utter local authority drivel in my entire life. BLAP has been created because the town council aren't doing their job properly. It takes a completely ambigious ""community partnership""...urg (sorry but the term ""community partnership"" makes me want to vomit out my insides and morris-dance on them)...oh where was I? Yes. It takes this rediculous waste of resources to simply fill the gap between the Town Council and the surrounding parish councils. That gap would not be there if the town council actually got of their heated driving seats, stepped out of their volvos and started to run this town properly. Even more amusingly...BLAP don't even know what they should be doing! Hence the questionnaire. BLAP has blundered into existence, and has been formed before they have even established that BLAP needs to exist at all! (you couldn't make it up!). It's like any new business/organisation, FIRST assess the needs of the consumer (resident), THEN IF there is a demand for the product, start the business, if not then stop wasting time and money and get on with your jobs! Sorry but this really really really irritates me. Airy Fairy middle-class idiots with too much time on their hands...let me just get something else out of my system whilst on I'm the subject. All of these ""projects"" are given names from a list of words that can be used in any order: Local Community Based Sports Arts Shared Collective Partnership Life Eco Trust Group Food Sustainable Organisation Take any of these words and create your own ""pointless community-based retoric group"" why not visit www.randomlocalorganisationnam egenerator.com? Why can't we just bloody well GET ON WITH IT?

I would suggest that Carlito log on to the town website and check the BLAP pages. I think he needs to get the majority of the crap he's written correct. They are a hard working group that have the needs and future of the town and community of Bridport at the head of their list of 'to do's'. But they can't do anything without knowing the needs of the town and its inhabitants. The only way they are going to find out what those needs are is to ask the people of Bridport for 'feedback'. If they went ahead and just 'did things' they would be ostracised for wasting time and money. Maybe, as Morning Loves It says, he should stand for election, or even join the BLAP organisation and then shout his mouth off, once he knows what he's talking about!

Hit the nail on the head there MLI, no time whatsoever! It's all spent spewing my demons onto BridportRadio! Seriously though, if the job of a councillor is to listen to the views of 'the people' and represent those views in council meetings, then all I need is a friendly councillor who'll simply repeat all of this vented spleen at meetings! Easy eh?

I think there is some truth in what you all say the problem is people taking ""ownership"" (another one for carlito's list). BLAP is a ""bottom up"" (another for the list) approach which can and does shape our local politics. The trouble is when we get to Town elections people vote party politics not personalties (with a few exceptions). What's the average councillor profile? Probably; retired, or about to, doesn't understand how systems work but is Conservative so must be good. OR an over enthusiastic Liberal who doesn't understand systems but likes to shout about things. Why do people keep voting these people in? why? What have they done for the town, and I mean really done not speaking out against something just to be seen in a good light. Good luck to BLAP, (gets off soap box).
