Our intrepid reporters put a quick step forward to Sixpenny Handley last Saturday to the fourth Endorse-it in-Dorset music festival. The weather was bright and sunny and the site was already rocking with throngs of multi coloured rave fairies and dance commandos, old punks freaks, hippies and weirdoes. Our first stop was Punk band Fat, Drunk, Stupid who thrashed out some old classic punk which made I feel quite nostalgic, a class act, don’t believe them when they say “Probably the worst punk tribute band in the world” they are great, especially accompanied by beer.
After some lunch at one of the many and varied food concessions we met up with BridportRadio member blondesandreds to have a drink on the backstage double decker bus and take in the rocksteady beats of The Big who got the crowd stirred right up ready for the bouncing bass and catchy lyrics of MiddleMan - great fun from Leeds.
We then had to check out our very own Bentley at the Comedy tent for some irreverent observations, then back to the main stage to see the legend Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry who was on form. Followed by Bison who played up a storm of old style ska with brass and bass getting mobs of Mohicaned minors and middle aged mobsters dancing up a storm.
Next up Dreadzone with their unique English dub style of rhythm, electronica and subsonic bass lines surging through my bones, playing old and new songs with vitality and style throughout the night pleasing the crowds with many encores.
Finally having found the designated driver listening to Eat Statics psychadelic trance we tottered on back to Bridport.
All in all Endorse-It does what it says on the tin: “Probably the best festival in Dorset” small enough to be friendly, with great family facilities and big enough to bring in the top bands to make it a wild time. Make sure you book your tickets early for next year.
