LOCAL HELD AS SPY E-mail

ImageJason Lewis, (the guy with the peddle boat from Askerswell) has run in to trouble  after entering Egyptian territory without permission. The 38-year-old was detained and has been questioned as a potential spy as he kayaked on Egyptian waters in Lake Nasser as part of his round-the-world human-powered 'Expedition 360'. Hot off the press there. Thanks for this. What an adventure he's having and I look forward to the book. I've crossed Lake Nasser but on a boat with an engine and security wise there is the Aswan Dam to consider. Standing on the Dam we were told that if terrorists blew the Dam up within hours Egypt would be drowned. Lake Nasser is vast - hardly a lake - more a sea. Good luck to Jason.

As far as I can make out, Jason Lewis is a blithering idiot. He's had to be rescued so many times at the expense of the local authorities wherever he happens to screw up. Now this? His expedition/challenge has been badly planned, prone to disaster and nothing but a complete waste of money for those countries who have had to bail him out. In my view, activities like this are usually selfish acts of an insecure individual who MUST prove something to themselves in order to avoid a life of boredom, and to make themselves feel better, generally follow the advice of others and get involved with some kind of charity. Well clever you Jason. I bet Bridport's really proud of you.

I think the Egyptian authorities have got it about right, why shouldn't they arrest some work shy hippy who is obviously there ""looking at stuff"". I may be missing the point here but what way sound the world is he going anyway?? It would seem to me to be an odd choice of route to take ie via Egypt. a quick look at the atlas would show you that the most direct route would be to peddalo across the channel and keep going in a straight line east through europe, russia on your bike until you came to the north pacific then peddalow across to usa and then on your bike tio the atlantic and then peddalow back home. Eygypt is miles out of his way. Also as a share holder both in Airline companies and cruise ship companies I would like to point out the Jason that we already have perfectly good ways of getting around the world that don't involve peddling paddling or walking.

I remember Jason Lewis mentioned to me before he got off on his useless world tour that he intended to do a bit of 'spying' on the side to fund his beer tab. I believe the Russians offered him the most money and he took them up on their offer. Apparently the Yanks weren't interested and MI5 didn't know where Egypt was. I think if the Egyptian authorities check the false heel in his right trainer they may find the evidence they were looking for. Hope this post hasn't dropped poor old Jason in it.

I would like to point out that the cartoon of a stereotypical spy sitting in a canoe at the top of this thread appears to have said spy flashing. What's that all about?

I was told Jason Lewis is conducting his 'round-the-world' trip virtually, from a shed in Askerswell. How long has it taken him? Is it 63 or 64 years now? It would be quicker if he stopped coming back to the UK for handouts to help him on the next leg of the journey. Get a job!
