HELO CREW THANKED E-mail

ImageAdrian Lessey yesterday thanked Dorset Police’s Helicopter crew for saving his life.

The 46 year old Bridport man visited Dorset police Headquarters – on Thursday 14 June – to thank the crew that saved his life after he was involved in a road traffic collision.

Mr Lessey was unloading tools from his van – on 26 November 2006 – when he was hit from behind by a vehicle driven by 90 year old Jean Hebron.

Mrs Hebron died at the scene of the collision and Mr Lessey was in a critical and life threatening condition.

The Dorset Police Helicopter, Oscar 99, and a team of three air operations officers attended the scene and, despite difficult weather conditions, transported the injured Mr Lessey to Dorchester Hospital.

The quick actions of the air crew meant that doctors were able to save Mr Lessey’s life. Unfortunately, he lost both legs from below the knee, as a result of the collision.

Mr Lessey requested to visit the Air Operations Team, in order to meet the crew who saved his life and have a look around the aircraft.

Mr Lessey said: “I wanted to come and meet the officers that attended to me and got me to hospital so quickly."

“Their actions may well have saved my life and I wanted to say thank you in person."

Mr Lessey spent time meeting the crew and was given a tour of the Police helicopter and the video and imaging facility used by the Air Operations Unit.
