ImageThe next Jazz evening is at Weycroft Hall, near Axminster on Friday 25th May 7.30pm; tickets £7.
The dinner and bar will be provided by The Gurkha Inn of Dorchester at £5 per plate of delicious Nepalese / Oriental food; this is very popular! (please pay on the evening).
The Weycroft jazz event will be of special interest to Bridport folk as it is in aid of Bridport youth work. Profits and donations will be divided between Gabi Nonneman, Bridport youth worker sponsored by Churches Together and The Mill Drop In Centre for Young People.

The Churches Together group struggle to raise enough salary for Gabi to support her youth work and in the past The Mill has had to make staff redundant because of lack of funds.
As a community we so need our young teenagers to be looked after and guided through this tricky period of life. Problems at home or roudy or drunken behaviour fall back onto the residents of Bridport and the youth services should be supported financially and applauded for the low paid work that they do.

Weycroft Hall is a beautiful 12th century manor house half a mile north of Axminster on the Chard road. It is surrounded by its own flowering gardens and with its great hall and minstrels gallery will be a wonderful venue for this evening of jazz and gospel. Weycroft is placed in trust as a Christian centre and visitors comment on the great sense of beauty and peace about the place.

MOOD INDIGO JAZZ ENSEMBLE
Angelica Kennard- voice; Philip Clouts - piano; Ralph Cree – drums; David Miles – double bass

A repertoire of sensual jazz standards mixed with high rhythm gospel - this promises to be an evening you can't afford to miss! The set includes the songs of Duke Ellington, Fats Waller, Mahalia Jackson and the Big Band sound.

Leaning towards blues and soul the songs express the tenderness of the human state with all its passion, sorrow and love.

Philip Clouts is known for his work with seven piece worldbeat jazz band Zubop with whom he has recorded four widely acclaimed albums, toured internationally and played at major festivals such as WOMAD and Glastonbury. Recent concerts have included Ronnie Scotts London and Symphony Hall Birmingham. Philip also teaches Kabala meditation.

Angelica Kennard, trained classically for 15 years and still maintains this strand in her musical repertoire. In Mood Indigo, however, we hear her more flexible range of sounds and the deep jazz / gospel roots where she feels at home. Angelica gives frequent song recitals and is also known locally as an inspirational teacher of Religious Education.

David Miles, double-bass legend has played with all the major Jazz names of the past 20 years. He teaches both guitar and double bass; playing frequently as a duo with Philip Clouts he is well known and respected on the Jazz circuit.

Ralph Cree, has a huge range of experience as both kit drummer and percussionist; he has a degree in West African music, and teaches drum kit and djembe in schools and workshops with his organisation: Magic Drum - provides drumming workshops and rhythm-based training for school, community and corporate clients across the South West of England.
