ImageThe latest newspapers to wipwop the "Notting Hill-on-Sea" nefarious nonsense into their rags are the London Evening Standard and the Sheffield Metro, gleefully telling their towny readership to snaffle up properties in the area before house prices go through the stratosphere. So that's it kids either stay with your parents / in winter lets, or go somewhere else to live...
I hear properties in South Wales are still reasonable.

The articles go on to say " ...blah, blah, blah boutique something, yadda, yadda, gastro hooha, celebrity blah, blah, ho hum, FurryWhittlingstool, blah, blah bargain £300,000 shed, yakkity schmakkity, blah, blah, blah..."

Sounds like a very accurate and informative article to me ??!?? Hopefully we will now get a better class of druggies and beggars.

You can still pick up an ex-miner's cottage in Tonypandy for under £100,00 (I'll have two please), and on hearing the accents in Somerfield on Monday, I get the impression that the ex-miners as well as the London elite have cashed in on the bargains to be had in West Dorset, (acceptable to all palates?). Having made that racist slur, I know of some delightful Welshman in Bridport! not least that lovely man who used to run the corner shop in North Allington.

'A striking scheme of flats with views of the Harbour'!!!!!!! You can't even see half of West bay now, still it will stop the cliff erosion as no one even knows the charmouth side is there now(don't know if it west beach etc as crap at directions)

You see - the word is spreading. Accept change or die. No use taking a King Canute attitude - Notting Hill -On - Sea is good for the town, businesses - and believe it or not locals. Welcome the new Brid Vision.

There are two types of ""real world"" the one that realworld lives in, that is inhabited by people relentlessly charging forward in search of ever more ways to cream off and scam a few quid at the expense of anyone who gets in the way, of either, his warped, thatcherite, greed infested manifesto, or his obvious mindset that change ""must equal progress"" even if it does involve forcing the local population back to the dark ages of serfdom and at the mercy of some absentee landlords whim. The other ""real world"" is inhabited by a more discerning, socially equitable, thoughtful and considerate type of person who would like to live in a family home rather than an investment. Sadly the latter are a dying breed. Remember realworld that people who live by the sword get shot by people who don't.

Oh yes and I can see that labour Have NO relation to Animal Farm's'some are more equal than others'.... Or 'stand and deliver' of Dick Turpin(with the added: or fall over, just cough up)

Has anybody noticed the striking resemblance St. Street has with Portobello Road? It has a tat market, an Electric cinema and an annual carnival. I am surprised the media has not picked up on this!

another unedited squirt of monologue from rustic...... the old AA saying ""contempt prior to investigation"" could have been written just for you!I read all the realword posts, and dont remember any reference to politics.. bringing back the feudal system or ripping people off.. its all in your mind, and i ask YET AGAIN.. what exactally are you frightened of?

Here's an idea. How about ""Rustic"" being given a corner of the Bridport Museum? Then he could peddle his old fashioned ,somewhat quaint ideals to visitors. For it is a museum where his outdated rhetoric belongs. The fact is, it really doesn't matter what ""Rustic"" and his followers believe. Whilst they were sitting in The Crown bemoaning the hand fate has dealt them - the more canny were out there buying property - and turning Bridport into Notting Hill On Sea. And Bridport is all the better for it.

Don't the RAC get a quote too?

Posted by Rustic, on 05-05-2007 18:39,
While I was in the museum, probably quaking with fear just to keep tuzo (and his rather dubious psychoanalytic abilities) happy, I could look up all the wonderful pictures, along with the written and spoken memories of people who remember when it didn't need to be better, it just was. When it was ""Bridport"" and not some media fodder, investment driven opportunity to make a few quid. I understand why you would want to visit and even live here, it is because it is Bridport. It does not need to be, nor has it ever aspired to be Notting Hill by anything. You repulse me and make me laugh with equal measure though realworld, the bit about my followers huddled together in the Crown had me guffawing out loud and for that I thank you. If people didn't protest and disagree with points of view like yours we would all end up just like you and tuzo, now that does scare me.

Ah tuzo, when looking for political references and bias perhaps you should read realworlds last post with a bit more detatched accademic accuracy rather than your normal stance of being a Blair to his Bush. Comments from realworld like ""accept change or die"" are reminiscent of a certain moustachied gentleman who rose to prominence in Europe during the 1930s and 40s. Of that attitude we should be afraid, very afraid. Change for changes sake is not always a good thing even if a few people make some fast bucks out of it.

Posted by Bentley, on 05-05-2007 21:39,
So then tuzo, it is alright for realworld to ""dump his load"" un-edited so to speak on the sensibilities of the BR site but you seem to imply criticism that rustic hasn't been censured. Were you and realworld separated at birth perchance? From where I am reading there would appear to be a bit of goose-stepping going on in the mainly empty weekend properties. Gallon of 4 star anybody?

Posted by Rustic, on 05-05-2007 21:53,
djinn38 you are right, if you close your eyes anywhere down south street on a sunny saturday morning you can hear the accents cutting the air with comments like ""Charles Charles! Hi its me Rupert, Hi ya ya ya, tell me are you down with Phillipa and the kids or a for a bit of a weekend with that young filly from accounts you crafty old dog you, haww haww haww haww, Oh watch out here comes Elizibeth and Tabatha, hello daaaarlins, mwwaaah mwaaah oh Charles isn't it absolutely divine and delightful, I saw someone earlier selling vedgetables with the mud still on them, do you think they put in on deliberately? isn't it so wonderfully third world chique, ya ya ya ya, just like the estate agent told us it would be, oh ya did i mention that I thought I saw Hugh drive by in his land rover earlier, marvelous, so natural. Funny but it almost sounds like being in Notting Hill but by the sea, How bizare darlinks

Realworld, your problem is you keep taking all this resistance to the bigger issue of ""change"". Where really there is no bigger issue here than the simple fact of not liking you personally. If ""change"" requires the likes of you polluting my breathing space with your ""upwardly mobile"" presence then don't expect ""change"" to happen too quickly. Stop converting this arguement to the bigger picture. YOU don't have a lleg to stand on in that bigger picture. In my humble opinion, it is entirely about YOU, and I find you absolutely repulsive.

Deja vu anyone?Still as I am a'follower' of Rustic(I don't even drink at the Crown)I would like to say that I too am afraid of ending up like tuzo and have doubled my tablets accordingly.Loving thoughts and group hug!

the editing i refer to(ooargh) is of the think before you speak variety..self ediiting if you like. notting hill on sea..? its a throw away headline it doesnt mean anything at all, as they say ""paper doesnt refuse ink"", But I think a lot of you secretly rather like it.. methinks the grunts do protest to much etc? Every change is greeted by enthusiasm or dismay,(or indifference I suppose) it just depends on your outlook, or you ability to change with it perhaps? As for carlitos extraordinary outburst, a little worrying,he seems to be in some sort of paranoid meltdown, but he did warn us......

Here's an idea - how about some kind of twinning with Padstow & Rock ? Bridport (N.H.O.S.) could be the newest member of the West Country Holy Trinity. Wine Bars, Coffee Houses, Chic Bistros - all us second home owners. Fabulous.
