The Dorset Cider Apple Project Tree Hunt 2007 - In 1796 Dorset had 10,000 acres of orchards. Now all we see are remenats of a once thriving industry. In our search for for old cider apple trees we hope to put dorset back on the map as a quality cider-making county.
Do you have any aged apple trees in your garden? There might just be an undiscovered old cider apple variety in your orchard. Recently Buttery Door, Symes Seedling and Golden Ball have been rescued, but we are still searching for Polly Ironsides, Best Bearer, Melcombe Russet, Queen of the Vale and many more. If you can help rescue Dorset's heritage, please contact: Liz on 01460 77058 or Nick on: 01308 485235. Come and see the orchard and cider display at The Royal Bath & West Show at Shepton Mallet from 30th May to the 2nd June 2007.
