CONTRABAND Ian McEwan the award winning novelist has returned some stones that he took off the Chesil Bank while writing his new best seller "On Chesil Beach" after hearing he had broken the law by taking a modest sample of pebbles Mr McEwan arranged for some of his associates to return them. Many people have enjoyed the work of Ian McEwan and this reporter says "let him keep his shingle" because after a walk down the beach we all invariably end up with stones in our shoes, cars and houses. WDDC has said they are addressing this issue by employing wardens to watch for offending pebble filled flip flops, sandals, buckets, spades and so forth, the enforcement officers will be known as "Stoners" and will be found wandering aimlessly up and down the World Heritage coastline. Who's with me when I say "let Ian hold on to his rocks!" Bridport Radio will be taking a collection to send to the Booker prize winner, please leave your geological donation in Bucky Doo square for collection.
