Over the last 7 days a number of crimes were reported to us these from around the area, these include: Significantly at least 6 lockers were broken into at the leisure centre. This occurred at approximately 1pm on Friday 23rd February. Numerous valuables and other personal items were removed. Pc Stuart Wilson would like to hear from you if you witnessed anyone acting suspiciously in the building during this time. This male has been remanded in custody and his further detention is in the hands of the courts to consider a custodial sentence to ensure he is does not become a danger to the public or police. RU 18 Licensed premises – including off licensed premiseA number of reports also came to my attention regarding the attempted purchase or sale of alcohol to persons under 18 either in a licensed premise and at off licensed premises.
The Licensing Act 2003 covers offences involving unauthorised licensable activities. Section 149 makes it an offence for a child to buy or attempt to buy alcohol whether or not on licensed premises, for him to have alcohol supplied to him or attempted to do so. It also makes it an offence for a person to act as an agent for a child in purchasing or attempting to purchase alcohol. For example, if a child gives money to an adult to buy alcohol in an off-licence for consumption by the child. There is a further offence for that person. Consumption of alcohol on premises by person under 18 It also makes it an offence knowingly to allow the consumption of alcohol by a child on relevant licensed premises if that child buys or attempts to buy alcohol .To a person who works at the premise in a capacity, whether paid or unpaid, he or she is authorised to prevent the sale and consumption to a child or person under 18. If licensees or staff allow this to happen, a fine is likely to be given to the individual and the premise if it continues. By taking reasonable steps this can be stopped by cooperation with licensees and staff in these premises. West Bay On Sunday 25th February 2007 complaints were received from members of the public that there were `boy racers` driving at speed and causing alarm, distress and annoyance to the local residents. After locating the offenders, a motorbike was seized under Section 59 Police reform Act 2002 for causing alarm and distress and for driving in a careless manner and a warning was issued to another driver for the same reasons. Under this legislation a vehicle can be seized by Police. The cost of recovery of the vehicle is substantial and the owner is liable for that cost. Driving inconsiderately will not be tolerated in the area of West Bay. Any one found to be committing any driving offence will be dealt with by Police as drivers are causing the residents of West Bay sleepless nights due to the level of noise and inconsiderate behaviour. PC Caroline Orchard community beat officer of West Bay, said, “ If you are found committing any of these offences, then be prepared to have your vehicle seized” Arrests
