Over the last 7 days a number of crimes were reported to us these include: Damage to occurred in the garden of a property close to the town centre after an offender scaled over a high garden wall over a period of a several days, this was reported to us on Sunday 11th February. Over the weekend an office was broken into at a business premise in South Street. A number of identifiable items were stolen and enquiries are continuing to identify any suspects. Drugs Warrant executed A search warrant was executed at an address in the Bridport town area under the misuse of drugs act at a property controlled by a housing association to tackle the supply of controlled drugs. During the searches officers seized quantities of drugs at the premise. As a direct result co-operation will take place with the owners of the properties and eviction orders will be sought. If tenants of any landlord-controlled properties are in clear breach of any tenancy contracts where Police officers attend expect this as a likely outcome. The occupant was arrested for the offence of possession of controlled substances with intent to supply. A 20yr old man has now been evicted as a result of his actions and is currently on bail pending a suitable charge decision made by the CPS. A reminder of a quote from Sgt Hughes from Bridport Police said in December 2006... “We will continue to monitor intelligence and will act upon it to ensure drug dealers and users are disrupted and convicted. I would ask that anyone with information regarding drugs use contact police or crimestoppers with as much information as possible in order for us to deal in an appropriate way. We will continue to work with other agencies proactively in the fight against drugs." Bicycle Coding Just as another reminder a planned undertaking by the Crime prevention panel and Bridport Police, cycle coding will take place in the front desk area of Bridport Police station on Saturday 24th February. This will be done by volunteers of the crime prevention panel for a price of £1 per bicycle throughout the day from 10.30am until 3.30pm. When a bicycle is stolen and recovered often it isn’t reunited with its true owner, as it can’t be accurately identified. When details like home postcode and house number are engraved or stamped on the frame it does help. Even if a thief has taken steps to permanently deprive the rightful owner by repainting a bike this can prove invaluable in identifying it as stolen property. Arrests Over the period February 6th to 13th– 14 arrests were made: 1x Burglary 1x Theft 2x Criminal damage 1x Causing sexual activity without consent 3x Positive breath test, drink driving- driving whilst unfit 2x Breach of bail conditions 1x Breach of anti social behaviour order 1x Assault actual bodily harm 1x Common assault 1x Possession of controlled substances with intent to supply 1x Causing harassment If you have any information regarding the above offences or any other crimes, then please come forward and help us with our enquiries: it may be your evidence, which successfully secures a conviction. Instead of accepting that crime is part of the Bridport society, let’s give the courts the facts and allow them to decide. Contact the police station direct, or speak to Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111 – all calls will be treated in confidence.
