ANIMAL ASIA E-mail

Dorwest Herbs recently donated the first prize of an iPod Nano into the nurses draw which was run as part of Veterinary Nursing Day, organised by the publication Veterinary Nursing Journal based in the UK.  The iPod was won by nurses at Animals Asia, a Hong Kong-based charity, dedicated to ending cruelty and restoring respect for all animals in Asia.  This charity works hard to find solutions to many issues that are close to the heart of both Dorwest Herbs and the general public in the UK.  These include a project to end bear farming in China, providing 300 animal therapy dogs across Asia, finding ways to end the practice of dog and cat eating through cultural understanding and providing emergency aid to animals of all types across the Asian continent.

The prize of the iPod was received with delight by the veterinary nurses at the charity.   Beverley Jane Elmer, the Senior Veterinary Nurse at the Animals Asia Foundation said “The most important thing for us nurses, working in rural China, is that our profession is acknowledged and appreciated from afar.  This is so important for veterinary nurses who want to dedicate their care and professionalism to a cause so worthy, but so far away from home, in often very trying and difficult circumstances.  We try, as a Foundation, to provide them with as many creature comforts as possible and the iPod has added to that immensely.  Bear surgeries are often long, so the nurses are already talking about the purchase of some fine speakers for a little background music to help them through the day and are very grateful to Dorwest Herbs for their generous donation of this prize.”

Roly Boughton, Promotions Manager at Dorwest, said “We are delighted to have been involved in the Veterinary Nurses Day events.  We are always pleased to help veterinary nurses in promoting their work, knowing what an important contribution they make to the care of all animals in veterinary practices all over the world.   It is especially good to know that the prize went to such a worthwhile charity doing an important job in what must sometimes be difficult circumstances.”
