Walking through the old cinema tunnel you get a real sense of nostalgia, the mosaic flooring and wooden handrail leading to the entrance, a quick twist on the brass knob and into the old Foyer of the Cinema. I was guided quite quickly to my table behind the original ticket booth, which now serves as the cash register, you can imagine the queues of people wearing mac’s and smokin’ tabs, waiting in line for the new film starring Mr Rathbone. KiaOra and Butterkist please love. Very friendly staff made me feel quite welcome, the furniture a real mix of allsorts, I believe a chair is a chair and let the food speak up. Without fuss warm bread was delivered on a board, crusty wholesome bread and a sharp knife fit for the purpose, scrunch, scrunch, scrunch the bread gave up the fight and allowed me to smear the local butter, the warmth turning the solid gold to oil. My order, simple. Steak and chips from the specials chalkboard. Served on plain white crocks with a mixed leaf salad and frites just like the one’s you get in France. I haven’t had steak that tasted so steaky in a long while, a dob of caramelized onions on top, I cleared the plate wiping the last of the juice with my crust, bloody lovely. Add coffee, job jobbed. 9/10 Bridport Radio Stars - Simple, Tasty, Unhurried local quality.
