Bridport Radio has recieved some up to date information about the lyric Theatre (formerly Bernard Gale School of Dance) after some speculation of how it was going to be used, see related article... This is from its prospective owner Margaret Barrett. The Lyric was sold through the "Land" department, rather than the "Residential" department of the Estate Agents. This doesn't mean that the building is going to be pulled down and the site used for a residential development! It was my offer that has been accepted by the Gale family, subject to survey and planning permission. My recent survey has revealed that extensive repairs are required on the old building, and I am submitting plans for permission to convert the front of the building into 2 small residences, and the auditorium of the theatre into an Indoor Soft Play Area and Family Eating Centre. This is a facility that I think is much needed in the Bridport area, and I hope it will be welcomed by local people. I hope to run this as a small family business with my 2 daughters. We have happy memories of the Bernard Gale School of Dancing and the pantomimes, and look forward to the building being used again by children for fun, exercise and healthy eating. The lovely old building will be treated with the respect that it deserves, and I hope will again become a popular ammenity for families in Bridport.
