'Good King Wenceslas looked out,
On the Feast of Stephen...........'
Good King Wenceslas or Wenca as he was known lived in Rome and was the first man to be killed for believing in the teachings of Jesus. His story is told in the Acts of the Apostles 6: 1 to 8: 2.
Some people claim that he shares this day with another St Stephen, who came from Sweden. St Stephen of Sweden is the patron saint of horses. Boxing Day has long be associated with outdoor sports, especially horse racing and hunting

One man
One man who was having some howsyerfather with another mans missus was challenged to a boxing match on Eggardon Hill, the resulting match was on December 26th 1850, Tony Robinson from the BBC’s Time Tunnel Get Me Out Of Here found marks on the ground at Eggardon still showing the corners of the ring and in 1953 the spittoon was found intact in a nearby field. The victim of the dirty beast was satisfied in the ring and the couple survived to make many more children.
