XMAS ENERGY CRISIS E-mail

ImageHave been dilligently turning television, and other audio home stuff  onto 'off' rather than standby to save energy throughout the year...

Imagine my joy to see the unfeasibly adorned houses all over the country 'celebrating' the season with probably 10 supertankers worth of diminishing resources to illuminate their blow-up electric santas and snowmen.

Just wondered if anyone else felt the same about the sort of fuel-crisis aspect to this practise that is increasingly popular.

An American import I believe. I have a theory that people are getting jiggy with their houses, dressing them up as an act of love and worship. Or maybe they are crying out for attention?

Given that not many people celebrate Christmas in a 'Christian way' anymore, this is quite a disturbing practise.

There are issues of meanness associated with not illuminating civic areas etc. Also strong opinions on Muslim areas refusing to 'celebrate' the season with illuminations while making a show of their new-year festival in February.

Perhaps like fireworks, people could all pool resources in one place, for one public display of colour and 'worship' in their communities rather than all over the place.

It is a luxury, like gas-guzzling motor cars, that we will have to do without at some point in the future.

And those calor-gas space heaters, chucking heat up into the night skies,   what's that all about... etc.

The idea of driving slowly is to make the world a safer and more peaceful place. Drivers like chesilbank & ivorbiggun have a point that cars are better at road handling than they used to be but that argument does not translate that driving skills have improved. In the old days of leaf springs and cross ply tyres you needed real skill to drive a vehicle, because if you got it wrong or let your concentration lapse for a second the bits of you that were not left inmpaled on the steering column were sent hurtling through the windscreen, which was made of proper glass. I assume the other two are driving round in namby pamby cars with climate control, ABS, Seatbelts!! air bags, traction control and other girls blouse inovations to cocoon the driver from his responsibilities to drive carefully and with due regard to other road users. It would also appear that they both suffer from a certain amount of stress whilst driving and being ""held up"" from their busy and important lives by more experinced, skillful and stress free drivers. They obviously have no idea how difficult it is to maintain 40MPH on the open road with people swerving around you at high speed and shouting abuse as they go by. The bit about getting upset and taking umbridge at being grouped together with other peckerhead drivers strikes me as unusual as I have no doubt that he hurls far more abuse at the so called ""slow brigade"" and no doubt receives plenty in return. Chill out man! p.s the main reason for driving slowly is so that I can spot other suitable properties for my freinds and I to buy.

Not only is the main tree a sorry sad sight but it is apparent that many businesses have forgone the treee provided by the council at a ridiculous mark up and erected traditionally by the same family since christmas trees were invented. I fail to understand the significance of conifer xmas tress anyway because lets face it, even if you do believe in the religious nonsense aspect of the whole thing, the area (in isreal/palestine/egypt) where all this malarkey is supposed to have taken place is not renowned for its vast tracts of conifer forset. Surely a juniper bush or olive tree would be more appropriate. And while I am on the subject if there are any commited christians reading this and expecting the second coming of JC don't you think that a cross is the last thing he is going to want to see????

i agree with some of the comments, indeed -low life smack heads will sink so low as to break into a church. ""that's because they are low lifes"" the trouble is people in bridport know who these thieves are, and see them spending their ill gotten gains and turn a blind eye. Oh yeah has anyone thought that when they did raids they just weren't in when and the old bill have yet to arrest them.

Nice one Carlito. So, what if you are a feces eating, greeney with rancid toes and driving a reckless gas guzzler. What part of the fence do they go on !! I'm with Delboy on the 100 pound fine for each house hold, hence i am now off to do some cash collecting.I'm starting with the H blocks in skilling, so i may not be coming home in one piece !!

It wasn't me gov'ner honest a god! It's those freemasons trying to fit me up for sure. The dark chocolate bourbon finger of suspicion has pointed towards me, but I will prove my innocence one way or the other. Yes! It's true I do have a 7.62mm C3A1 sniper rifle, (probably Canadian issue), but the Grand High Wizard would know that this is 'the snipers choice!' P.S. Do I get a Mikki Mug if I reveal my whereabouts?
