Victoria Grove speed limit campaigner Maureen Hymas has asked Bridport Town Council to back a speed limit of 20mph along Victoria Grove after a pet cat was killed!

She said: "Yet another pet cat has died a slow and painful death and one can only assume from his condition that this was the result of careless and callous driving. "It is only a cat you may think but next time it could be a child, it could be you, me or indeed anyone if something isn't done."

Coun Richard Nicholls added that the potholes in the road meant a cat would more likely be drowned than run over. He said: "The actual state of the road is appalling. I have been talking to the council about it and they simply said the surface of the road is just breaking up. The surface of that road is collapsing, it is not a narrow country lane anymore it is a main thoroughfare whether we like it or not, filling it up with little bits of filler won't do."

Councillors have agreed to support a plea to the county council for a 20mph speed limit.

Let the road be, the more it breaks up the slower you'll have to go.

To change tack just a little, how about the MOST dangerous stretch of road, the A35 from Quarr hill to the start of the bypass? through the ""london inn hamlet""? the simple addition of double white lines would save many accidents caused by impatient motorists overtaking on this stretch ov ""village"" road, there are several residences along this stretch of road, so one would expevt it to be a 40 mph limit anyway, but how much would it cost to paint another white line? how many more lives does it cost before something is done? your comments welcomed,doug chalk

Will anyone keep to a 20mph limit? Okay so maybe it'll bring speeds down to 30, but isn't it time realistic and consistant speed limits were established nationwide? Of course there's little point if they're not enforced. How long will it be before some of the (much needed) parking spaces on Vic Grove are removed to make way for (so-called) traffic calming? Does anyone think the latest traffic calming methods employed in St Andrews Road and Skilling are safe and effective?

I agree entirely bout the bit by Quarr Lane and down toward the bypass...my sons father lives in Quarr Lane and trying to pull across into there or out of it again for that matter is so dangerous, several times while waiting to turn into it i have nearly been hit as cars come hurtling round the corner.

Another top notch free parking space is directly on the junction of the traffic lights outside the town hall on market days. Make sure you use a van though, otherwise you won't score full points for obscuring the traffic signals to all other motorists.

Certainly the re-opening of the West Bay, Bridport Maiden Newton line together Abbotsbury, Weymouth, Easton lines with a lot of the track bed still being in place would be far more sensible than this crazy idea of a monstrously ugly monorail. These lines could be run in the summer months as a steam railway which would generate extra visitors to the area while in the winter a single diesel car could provide a reasonably useful service. The views from these services would be expeciaaly good if the services were run with observation cars making a picturesque and interesting railway service. But monorail along the beautiful Chesil Bank? NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO,
