All this business of taking your partners name when you get married puzzles me. is it legal? I ask because someone I know is recently married and they have joined their names together, in fact, thinkin about this, he already has a hyphonated name!! but i question whether they are able to use a "made up(pretentious even) surname on legal documents etc? does anyone know? it seems from this that if i wanted to add say "winterbourne" to a name of SMITH, could i just legally call myself WINTERBOURNE SMITH?
this is just an example and me name is not smith, but what do you think?
and how come females can revert to their maiden names or even keep using them after marriage, i can think of at least one woman who doesnt use her husbands surname, whats the deal there? and mrs becomes ms at the drop of a hat, but the porr guys are stuck with what they have!! I hope someone knows the answers to these queries and can tell us what’s legal and aint.
(and i think its time i changed my nick name its too obviously me, can i do that please? ) doug the hat

You can legally call yourself any name you want to and use it on legal documents as long as you don't do it to evade tax or commit fraud. On the subject of name changes, I think Bridders should be renamed 'Gotham City' which would fit nicely with my alter ego 'The Bat' and my lifestyle choice to protect the city from crims by sniping them from afar. Just a thought.

The chariot race in Ben Hur was filmed in Bridport. The chariot track was actually a circuit of South Street, Sea Road South and West Street. The film producers erected scaffolding along Sea Road South and packed it with extras in period costume who cheered madly every time a chariot (contructed from coverted Robin Reliants) drove past. The dolphins lap counters which were used in the film were later smashed up to make hardcore rubble which was used as a foundation for the drugtakers memorial bench which now graces our town at the junction of West and East Street. Also the galley slave scenes were filmed in Westbay. The bit where Charlton Heston is afloat on a piece of wreckage with Jack Hawkings was filmed in the sports centre swimming pool. They mixed gravy powder in the water and put a big sky coloured backdrop behind the actors.

How many people have been killed or seriously injured by people who think they are as important as chesilbank because they happen to be 5 minutes late for an appointment or delivery? It is the moronic mind set of drivers like that who think their rightful place on the road is ahead of the car thats in front of them that causes the bad crashes and not the people who are driving at a less stressful and gentle pace more suited to the highways and byways of west Dorset. When slurping on his next pint of testosterone chesilbank and his admirers may consider why they live in a sleepy part of rural england as perhaps they would be advised to move somewhere more racy, like Yeovil where no doubt crowds of like minded peckerheads would gather round and applaud their pointless dangerous driving. It may have slipped his notice but there are more cars on the same amount of road so you will have to drive slower (or maybe I am typing too fast for him to grasp this simple logic)
