CRIME UPDATE 27 SEP |
|
Over the last 7 days a number of incidents have come to light, Including an increase in shoplifting in and around the town centre, where known or suspected thieves are repeatedly targeting retail premises. During the early hours of Thursday 21st September an assault occurred outside The Royal Oak when a man had suspected crack to an a eye socket after being attacked. Overnight Friday 22nd September arson occurred to a vehicle parked in Somerfield’s car park. The car in question was completely burnt out. During the same period a parked vehicle had damage to it’s paintwork whilst it was in the car park of St Swithuns Ct. A number of other incidents were reported during the weekend including damage to a window at the Women’s Institute in North Street.
Other incidents
A distraction burglary occurred at a premise in the Bothenhampton area of town at approximately 1pm on Wednesday 13th September. On this occasion a white man aged approximately 30yrs, 5ft 4 in tall entered and stole cash after he purported to be from the Water Board. I would ask that residents take steps to identify callers who indicate they are from utilitiy companies by demanding identity, if you have any doubts do not allow entry and if you have a door chain use it. Pc 2419 White would like to hear from any witnesses about this case.
In a previous press release I spoke about an incident that occurred at approximately 1130pm on Saturday 22nd July at this time a serious assault occurred outside The Ropemakers. A male was attacked from behind as he left the pub by a group of people one possibly armed with a baseball bat. This was an unprovoked attack a crowd of people who witnessed the attack not intervene to help. It is also known that a number of vehicles were parked nearby including taxis with drivers inside them. We are keen to identify the attackers and deal with them and bring them before a court where the attackers can be dealt with appropriately. Pc 101 Halton would like to hear from anyone who witnessed this attack.

Police Charity Ball
As you may be aware, the POLICE BALL has been a major fixture in the Bridport social calendar for the numerous years in various forms since 1979. During the most recent years it was organised by my predecessor Les Cummings, it also raised tens of thousands of pounds for local charities. This year, we are relaunching the Ball, as bigger and better than ever. We can promise an evening packed with entertainment together with a dinner sourced from Bridport businesses, and a venue transformed for us for the evening by a local arts organisation. This year’s charity ball is open to all of the Bridport Community. The ball is taking place at Freshwater holiday park on Friday 17th November. Posters advertising the event are on display with details of how to get tickets. Tickets will be available from the Tourist Information office in South Street and at Bridport Police station for the price of £21 tables will hold a maximum of 12 per group. Proceeds for the ball will go to local charities and other deserving causes. If any organisations or business can donate items that can be auctioned or put on a raffle to raise money, then please contact me at the police station.
If you have any information regarding the above offences or any other crimes, then please come forward and help us with our enquiries: it may be your evidence, which successfully secures a conviction. Instead of accepting that crime is part of the Bridport society, let’s give the courts the facts and allow them to decide.
Contact the police station direct, or speak to Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111 – all calls will be treated in confidence
