This weeks crime update has taken a different format to reflect the up and coming events and issues of crime that have affected the area Pick pockets As mentioned in last weeks press release there was a pick-pocketing incident, which occurred during the busy market on Saturday 29th July. Another suspicious incident occurred on Monday 7th August 2006 between the hours of 1215 and 1330 a elderly couple were doing their weekly shop in Morrison’s West Bay Road Bridport. The gentleman’s wallet was in his rear trouser pocket. On checking for his wallet he found it was missing, a long with a substantial amount of cash. Any information please contact PC 2266 Caroline Orchard at Bridport.
Two other suspicious incidents occurred in the town centre where individuals have been jostled whilst walking with valuables. These occurred at approximately midday on Friday 4th August. An elderly victim was jostled by youths in West St and later noticed a purse missing. 20 minutes later in East St another theft of a purse under similar circumstances was reported. It is important that you remain alert to your surroundings, ensure that you take steps to look after your valuables. Keep them close to you ensure any handbags are closed and secured. Be aware that people intent on stealing may attempt to distract you or work in unison with others. Over the period between August 2nd to 9th 18 arrests were made: - 4x theft/ theft- shoplifting 3x assault actual bodily harm 1 common assault 1 x positive breath test – drink drive 2 x disqualified driving 4 x warrant for failing to appear in court 1x disorderly behaviour 1x criminal damage 1 x possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply Police Charity Ball
As you may be aware, the Police Ball has been a major fixture in the Bridport social calendar for the numerous years in various forms since 1979. During the most recent years it was organised by my predecessor Les Cummings, it also raised tens of thousands of pounds for local charities. This year, we are relaunching the Ball, as bigger and better than ever. We can promise an evening packed with entertainment together with a dinner sourced from Bridport businesses, and a venue transformed for us for the evening by a local arts organisation.
This year’s charity ball open to all of the Bridport community will be on sale soon. The ball is taking place at Freshwater holiday park on Friday 17th November. Posters advertising the event will be on display soon with details of how to get tickets. If you have any information regarding the above offences or any other crimes, then please come forward and help us with our enquiries: it may be your evidence, which successfully secures a conviction. Instead of accepting that crime is part of the Bridport society, let’s give the courts the facts and allow them to decide. Contact the police station direct, or speak to Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111 – all calls will be treated in confidence. PC 2232 Scott McGregor Community Beat Officer
