In its new location of Asker Meadow, Bridport Food Festival broke all records as thousands of people flocked through the gates over the weekend of 7 – 9 July. “We were overwhelmed from start to finish,” commented Amanda Streatfeild, chairman of the Festival Committee, “The Festival brought many 1,000’s of people to Bridport, not just to the main festival site but to the high street too, it was always our aim, to highlight Bridport and its unique food culture.
Food producers, including Dorset Farmers’ Markets, Gustomarket and individual producers were incredibly busy and many sold out. The Beer Festival was also extremely well supported thanks to the hot sunshine and wonderful selection of ales.” Over 100 individual producers and many organisations were involved in the Festival which brought together many elements of rural life in a real celebration of what the Bridport area has to offer. From thatchers to hurdle makers, West Bay Sea Angling Club to local singers, cheese to chutney and beer to local bangers – all were well supported by locals and visitors alike. The Sea to Vale Marquee drew the crowds with chef demos and displays of locally grown food. Educational exhibits also explained how the land, sea and climate of West Dorset form the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. “When we finally closed the gates on Sunday, we were exhausted but thrilled at how the event went. In total around 6,000 people came to the Festival and many organisations will benefit including the local Lions, Round Table and Burton Bradstock PTA who did sterling work making cups of tea and coffee. Our thanks go to everyone in the community who helped, volunteer stewards, businesses and many local people who willingly gave their time to make this Festival the best yet,” finished Amanda Streatfield.
