JURASSIC ARTISTS E-mail
This year the ARTISTS OF THE JURASSIC COAST 2008 at Eype Centre for Arts . Open daily between 10.00am and 4.30pm from Saturday, September 6th until Sunday October 5th. Michael J Chappell is the curator for the exhibition and is excited by the prospect of another successful show. He writes: Image“We now have our full line up for the Artists of the Jurassic Coast exhibition with a great mix of regular and new artists. Billie Willcocks, Stephen Bishop, and I, will be returning with a new body of work specially executed for the exhibition together with a new painter Hugh Woodeson.

In Annie Dent, we have a new photographer and we also have two new potters, Rosemarie James and Bill Crumbleholme. Hugh Woodeson's colourful work will bring a fascinating new interpretation to the painting line up and Annie Dent's vision of textural and evocative photographs of boats and water are totally different to any of our previous photographers.

The two potters could not be more different but both bring a wonderful insight to the life of the Jurassic Coast. Bill Crumbleholme often uses the shapes and techniques of the potters who worked along the coast during the Bronze and Iron Age with earthy glazes or smoked and burnished finishes producing both decorative pieces and practical studio pottery that can be used as well as displayed. In contrast, Rosemary James uses bright blue and sea green glazes in her work, which bubble, run and dance over her delicate pots, echoing the sky and stormy seas. From small dishes to chargers and three dimensional wall hangings, her work is just perfect for the exhibition.

It is hard after two such successful years to keep improving the standards of this exhibition but I am convinced we will again produce the must see exhibition in Dorset for 2008 with a chance to buy work at an affordable cost from established and emerging artists with growing reputations both here and abroad.”
