Tickets go on sale tomorrow for one of West Dorset best folk events. Following last years success, BAC On The Fiddle returns with another clutch of the countries best fiddle players.
Rising young star, Bella Hardy will be joined by Chris Sherburn (Last Nights Fun) to headline this years event. Bella has been bowling over festival crowds all summer with her hypnotic vocals on unaccompanied ballads and songs with her own fiddle accompaniment which have been described as “breathtaking”.
Bella is twice nominated in the 2008 BBC Folk Awards 2008, and her recent debut solo CD, Night Visiting, has been really well received.
As well as Bella we have South West duo Nyckelharpa. The nyckelharpa has its origins in 14th Century Sweden and there are currently only a handful in the UK, Gris Sanderson and James Dumbelton aim to bring this fascinating and unusual instrument to a wider audience with both traditional and contemporary music from Sweden as well as original compositions.
Opening the show is local favorite Stompin’ Dave Allen, normally known for his banjo playing, Dave is also a top quality fiddle player, specializing in American roots music, old-time, bluegrass, blues, country blues, folk, vintage country & hillbilly. He has picked up many tunes in his tours across the states and is bringing them home to Bridport.
The concert and workshops take place on 4th Oct and more details are available from Bridport Arts Centre (01308) 424204
