Alfred Baker (senior) passed away on 24th August 2008. He was a great man, admired for his generosity, charm and humour. Our thoughts and love are with his family.

I’ve never written an ‘Obit’ but I need to put my thoughts on paper, as it were. I knew you were going to die ‘Darlin’, but I didn’t want it to happen.
You came into my life about 8 years ago when you bounced into the office & said anything you could do to help, you would do. There followed an hour or so of gentle, idle chat & gossip & we went on to The George for a snifter or two. That set a pattern…
Nothing was ever too much trouble. You were always there to help. You were always generous of spirit, kind, honest & diffused many tricky situations with your charm and diplomacy. Who in West Bay Road could resist!?
I am so sorry I couldn’t make your funeral, but from all accounts everyone there gave you a heck of a good send off and you, Val, Little Alf and your family were very much in my thoughts. You were such a good man and such a good friend to me.
