PERCEIVED DANGERS? E-mail

Safe driverWell heres another moan about roads and danger. some folk dont seem to "CONNECT" the two but here we go...

In the local rag recently it was announced that it was unlikely that a slip-road will be made at the junction on the A35 at Eype, on the "bypass", which I'm sure most would agree is BAD NEWS!

But all is not lost, we can take comfort from the fact that a "ROUTE MANAGER" at CONNECT HIGHWAYS AGENCY has raised his head above the parapet and said the following:

"Road safety improvements cannot happen on percieved dangers".thank you Mr Eddie Varley (we dont need your nickname, Edward, thanks) He went on to say that he couldn't comment on accidents that MAY happen, and that "we can only work within the guidelines, and those are based on accident HISTORY not PERCEIVED hazards"! Thank you again Mr Varley of Connect Highways Agency, for now, if anyone loses (or has lost) a relative or friend in an accident on that junction we now have someone who can answer whether it was part of a history of accidents or a perceived accident.

In these days of litigation I take off my gnarly ol' hat off to the guy, well done! IS HE SAYING THEN, THAT ALL THE SLIP-ROADS ON ALL THE BYPASSES AND MOTORWAYS WERE PUT THERE BECAUSE THERE WERE LOTS OF ACCIDENTS? No, I dont think so, do you?

Maybe Connect highways Agency should review their "guidelines" or throw them in the bin and get on with the job they're paid to do, ie, make our roads safe!! I do hope Mr Varley has the opportunity to read this, and think about what he has said to the press and therefore to the people of Dorset!

While I'm here on this soap-box, may I once again say, its high time something was done about double-white-lining the stretch of A35 between Quarr Lane and the western end of the by-pass. there are many residences along this stretch of road and the dangerous overtaking there is going to kill and maim a few people soon if nothing is done. incidentally, there is already a "perceived history" of accidents in this area so... that's it, thanx for reading me and do summat if you can eh?

I agree OliWard, Rob Ridge is my brother in Law, and although we may not always see eye to eye, he certainly does care about the young up-coming generation. He works hard to keep something alive that the young love, his skate unit has been going for ages and i am sure that it has kept, if only a few, out of the pubs and off the drugs. Its people like Rob and Arthur Woodgate that should get memorial benches in the town, when the time comes!

just noticed that theres a couple of new road signs been planted on the A35 recently, as if we need more!!! theres now a ""slippery road"" sign just opposite the old London Inn . This is an example of one of Connect Road Agency's ""perceived dangers"". They must have realised it was a bad mistake to have planted the non-indigenous sycamore trees along the stretch of a trunk road, trees which have broad leaves which become like soggy cardboard when they hit the wet road!! So it seems theyre covering their exposed buttocks by erecting a sign so they cant be sued when theres another accident! why dont they cut those trees down and replace them with something like hawthorn etc which also wouldnt grow so tall, blocking out so much light from the road and the houses on the other side of the road! Now then Waldorf and Stadtler just because youre the mayor, you shouldnt mock the afflicted, instead do something about it in you new position of power and well done for gaining your new office and may i wish you luck in your search for your father, (only kidding) , doug the hat

So-the powers that be have made their decision on improving the horrendous layout at the western end of the flypast-impose a 50mph speed limit 400m either side of the junction!Brilliant idea-nobody actually takes any notice of the existing 60mph limit so a lower limit will be a great success-NOT!!!

Oh Mr Chesilbank,do you not know that elderly drivers have completed the Creative Roadsure Advanced Program ? Or better known as the CRAP initiative ! It teaches them to drive in pairs so that the passenger can do the looking left or right,as the driver usually can't. They are also recommended to stick to 20 mph, EVERYWHERE !! When parking their prefered method is the touch parking, whereby anyone behind or infront gets a lovely sized repair bill for a broken bumper and number plate. And lastly i will let you in on their exclusion from having to use indicators or look in their driving mirrors at the couple dozen cars getting frustrated behind them for the last 20 miles. Now you know why folk call their driving CRAP !!
