CRIME UPDATE 28 MAY E-mail
ImageOver the last 7 days the following arrests took place:

3 x Assault actual bodily harm
4 x Criminal Damage
1 x Common Assault
1 x Driving whilst unfit [Drink driving]
1 x Protection from harassment

Pick Pocketing

ImageThere has been a noticeable increase in the reported thefts in and around the town centre with a large majority of arrests relating to shoplifting. Thieves will attempt to steal during busy times when staff are often busy are targeting certain shops in the town centre. I ask that staff in these shops ensure that any CCTV equipment is recording and working correctly to allow us to obtain evidence of any suspicious incidents.

Another situation that has come to our attention is series of pick pocketing, which took place at approximately 2pm on Wednesday May 21st during a busy market day. On this occasion a number of incidents of thefts and attempted thefts from the bags of victims occurred whilst they were in premises within the town another was then subsequently reported in Lyme Regis. It is important that you remain alert to your surroundings and look after your valuables. Keep bags closed and close to the front across your body so that you can be alert of anyone tampering with your property.

Criminal damage

ImageAnother spate of wanton criminal damage has occurred in Bridport this time to the mortgage centre, West Street and to a 4 vehicles in South Street. These incidents occurred in the early hours of Saturday May 10th.
The mortgage centre had 2 large panes of plate glass broken and a number of vehicles have been attacked causing wing mirrors have be broken off.
An appeal for witnesses to these incidents is sought. If you are aware of anyone bragging about similar incidents or where a family member or a friend has a recent or fresh injury to their hands or bragging about causing damage, then you are asked to contact us at the Police station.

If you have any information regarding the above offences or any other crimes, then please come forward and help us with our enquiries:  it may be your evidence, which successfully secures a conviction.  Instead of accepting that crime is part of the Bridport society, let’s give the courts the facts and allow them to decide.
Contact the police station direct, or speak to Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111 – all calls will be treated in confidence.
