TRAIL IS A SUCCESS E-mail
BRIDPORT Heritage Forum chairman Charles Wild this week paid tribute to all those who have helped make the Newbery Trail such a success.

Over the last month, visitors have poured through the doors of the town hall, the arts centre and other venues that were a part of the trail, held to celebrate the life and work of Fra Newbery, who became an inspirational director of the Glasgow School of Art. Said Mr Wild: “We are all delighted with the Newbery Trail event. As chairman of the Bridport Heritage Forum I would like to thank everyone who has helped to make the Newbery month such a success, in particular Crystal Johnson who has done an incredible job as project manager, the managers and curators of the various venues, and all the volunteer stewards who have taken such anenthusiastic and lively interest and who have made visitors to the
exhibitions so welcome."

Meanwhile, the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Society, named after Newbery’s famous pupil, were overwhelmed by the trail.

Jo Lamb, who led a party of 15 adults and a six-year-old boy on a visit to Bridport, said: “We were taken aback at how the people of Dorset revered him. It touched us that Bridport people think so much of Newbery.

“We were all really impressed by Newbery's work that we saw in Bridport Town Hall and the Allsop Room and at the enthusiasm in Dorset for Newbery and his legacy.”

She said the ‘Inspired’ exhibition and cream tea at Sladers Yard, West Bay, rounded off their visit perfectly.

“We would like to thank to all those who have made the Newbery Trail happen, and made our visit possible and enjoyable,” she said. “It would be great to see these works shown together elsewhere, particularly in Glasgow.”
