Symondsbury Farm Estates are announcing a bold new green initiative which they hope will win them a prestigious European award AND generate green electricity!
For many years the view of Colmer’s Hill has been enjoyed by residents and visitors to West Dorset. Symondsbury Farm Estates are announcing a bold new plan to update and improve upon this iconic view by erecting a small 30 metre wind turbine in the middle of the small group of trees. This remarkable new vision came about after a sustainability appraisal of the estate. It was realized that the perfect site existed for generating green electricity. “We estimate we can reduce Bridport’s carbon footprint by 30 tonnes of CO2 per year. I’ve always thought the trees on the hill look a bit lonely. I believe we shouldn’t hide away beautiful designs, but rather be proud of them. I think the trees and the turbine will complement each other beautifully – that combination of new and old, the rugged trees with the sleek white blades – it needn’t look incongruous at all”, explained Philip Colfox. “It just so happens that the European Union is inviting entries for a competition of most improved landscape. We think this can win it and really put us on the map!” The electricity generated will benefit the town through the newly formed company Bridport Haverall Fuel.
