better BUT keep reference numbers as they come in otherwise it's difficult to cross reference?? PS I think we should start a campaign to make Bridport a true idepentent state!! Your as random as ever... Goccibos

Posted by Editor, on 05-03-2008 09:24,
We've touched on making Bridport independent before (we've got the ruling class sorted with our Peers), see TAX FREE BRIDPORT

Posted by tuzo, on 05-03-2008 15:49,
well I am totally in favor of ""idepentetace"" ( whatever it is) I will have half a pound of it (on credit please?)

Posted by Rufus, on 06-03-2008 10:11,
New ordering not a good idea . As I type Tuzo's posting on 5th March is number 1 . When this post appears Tuzo will no longer be ""1"" nor will Goccibos be ""3"" so reference to postings by number becomes impossible when commenting . Revert to previous style to save confusion .

Posted by Editor, on 06-03-2008 10:40,
Good point Rufus (3/6)- I spose one could refer to the date posted, although no good if one is posting multiple comments... hmmm... Vote on it! - see right column >>

Posted by Rustic, on 06-03-2008 19:24,
I haven't logged on in a while and when I do I notice everything is running backwards. This is arse. The story makes sense if you read it in the order it was posted. It is like reading a book and starting at the back page. I don't know what cider or drugs you were on when you thought this might be a good idea but from the vote on the subject 75% of the contributers disagree, so come on Ed stop fannying about and put it back to the proper way. It wasn't broke so why try to fix it?

Posted by Jammie Dodger, on 06-03-2008 21:49,
Ed - it makes perfect sense to have the newest comments first, especially for new members who may not necessarily want to trawl through the mad rantings of Rustic. Keep it current, keep it topical. Luv Jammie.

I like having new stuff at the top to save clicking through pages of stuff you've already read (at least on the long threads), and it reduces scrollwheel wear, and I am lazy. Maybe there could be an option in our user settings to see it hows we wants? All moot if the numbers don't match the articles though. That way craziness lies.

Posted by Carlito, on 07-03-2008 09:11,
Nice one Ed. Now all you need to do is put the comments box at the top (above the latest comment, to make it easier to reference a recent comment) and hey presto. Easy eh?!

Posted by Editor, on 07-03-2008 10:25,
Thats done Carlito, still a pain about numbering, what one could do is quote the post they are referring to using the button above... Quote
Easy eh?!

Posted by Rufus, on 07-03-2008 10:43,
If the mood is for the new style then why not number the first post in any thread ""1"" which stay ""1"" even when at the bottom as it were ? Carlito's post today (07 March) would be ""9"" permanently in this thread and would save renumbering as well as allowing reference to postings by number to continue .

Posted by Editor, on 07-03-2008 11:22,
I'm afraid I can't change the numbering that easily, I'll have a word with the webmaster... This comments system was originally intended for people to comment on the articles but have now turned into a bit of a forum, so more R&D for us...

Yesterdays Guardian ran article on Waterstone's having an open door policy and sure enough Bridport's bookshop has its doors wide open. Guardian called for a town to operate a closed door policy with the same success as Modbury's no plastic bags. Think of the energy saved if those doors were closed

This upside down way of doing things is bloody awfull and so say the people who have voted so far by over 2 to 1. I dont like having to read a thread backwards and can't see the point other than to appease a couple of lazy toerags who get a bit tired and emotional having to use the scroll down wheel. I ask that you you allow democratic process to take precident and reconsider this ass about face way of threading.

We don't need those Lyme Regis peeps from Lyme Regis, with their strange Lyme Regis ways. What sort of town calls it'self a town when it doesn't even have a bell tower? Does Lyme Regis have a resident sniper??? I think NOT! I went to Lyme Regis once, it was nice.

Draino's idea of a forum (instead of comments?) might be worth considering. I don't know how much it would change the character of the site, hiding the comments in a separate section. I quite like having them where they are but it would be tidier, a bit more logical and easier to do new topics, and perhaps it would stop the uninformed from assuming the Ed wrote them. I think he said about that before. I can't remember. I must be too tired and emotional.

It's all back to normal now, with newest comments last

New commenting system now in use, hope you like it.

Does seem to need a lot of clicks to get to read the comments. I prefer scrolling.

Posted by tuzo, on 14-03-2008 16:18,
i am so relieved that this worrying business about comments has been resolved at last, may all the saints in heaven and on earth, be praised... twas giving me a headache.... that nothing would quell.

Excellent idea along with join the Campaign to Complain which only costs £0.01 plus the price of a stamp.

Send a cheque to Gordon Brown payable to "THE LABOUR PARTY" for £0.01 with a note saying :

"Please find my contribution of £0.01 to The Labour Party, which in my view reflects the benefit you are adding to the United Kingdom"

Send the note and cheque to:

Gordon Brown
Prime Minister
10 Downing Street
Westminister
London

Post date it for June 6th 2008. (D-Day for the historians amongst you)
If you are feeling really vindictive, include your address and ask for a receipt.

Posted by goccibos, on 26-03-2008 12:12,
royzap, if this governments contribution is worth 1p then we should each be personally sueing the Tories for 1 million each for the mess Thatcher left us in! (selling off council houses; no where for Bridders people to live, de-nationalising industry; higher transport bills, I could go on)

Grrr I love this town but hate the big C little c politics sometimes. I'm sure most of you are better off now? And no I'm not a member of the Labour Party!!
