On March 7th the Electric Palace hosts The Kills featuring Kate Moss’s new fiancé Jamie “Hotel” Hince. Garage Rock duo The Kills are on a UK tour playing in old cinemas that have been chosen specifically for their atmosphere and charm and they particularly liked the look of Bridport’s Electric Palace.
Jamie and Alison W Mosshart are sparse, minimalistic songwriters in the Indie tradition. Following international touring they entered Toe Rag studios where the White Stripes record to produce their first album “Keep on your Mean Side”. Their first single, “The Good Ones” entered the UK charts at number 23.
The Electric Palace has offered to accommodate the band and their significant others at Symondsbury Manor as long as Kate Moss leaves Peters wine cellar alone. By coincidence, Pete Docherty is currently staying near Crewkerne!
Domino is extremely proud to announce the release of the brand new single from The Kills. Cheap & Cheerful, two and a half minutes of rock ‘n’ roll abandon, is released on March 3rd 2008.
The production, featuring beats and studio smarts from Spank Rock’s producer Alex Epton aka Armani XXXchange, combined with Alison’s confidently teasing vocals, create a forward-thinking track - daring you to take it on right now.
Taking inspiration from Pizza Pizza Daddio, a Sixties documentary about kids in inner-city schools in the USA, The Kills’ Jamie Hince and Alison Mosshart started building rhythms influenced by the children’s dark playground songs, on an old school hand-punched MPC-60 hip hop drum sequencer. The end result is a track that takes you right to the heat of the moment - both timeless and utterly contemporary.
Cheap & Cheerful is taken from the band’s forthcoming album, Midnight Boom, due a week later on March 10th.
Cheap & Cheerful will be available on 7” (RUG282), CD (RUG282CD) and via digital download (RUG282D). B-side information and full tracklisting TBC.
The Kills will be playing live shows at the end of Electric Palace, Bridport
