I wonder just how many people are aware that when we do switch over to digital in 2009, we will only receive 20 out of the 55 freeview channels. This is because a decision was taken to not to give all the channels to viewers on repeaters such as Bridport and Beaminster etc. This combined with the BBC decision not to give Dorset it's own local radio station just confirms what Whitehall thinks about Dorset, especially West Dorset. - TA Users' Comments (7) Add your comment Posted by Rustic, on 24-01-2008 00:31, I say it is still 20 channels too many. Why have more channels of utter rubbish beamed into your home, numbing your mind and slowly eating away at your own creativity and powers of conversation. Due to illness over the festive period I had to stay in, ""good news thinks I"" as there is bound to be loads of good stuff on the TV. What did I get??????? 55 channels of low brow, low quality, lowest common denominator, low life turgid guff. Thankfully I had a radio and managed to find plenty to keep me entertained and retain some modicum of sanity. I also resorted to that old fashioned and near forgotten method of entertaining ones self, Reading. I know it will never catch on because you can't plug it in, it doesn’t need batteries, it has no remote control and takes some form of effort and concentration to achieve, but get it right and you will be amazed what’s out there. Do yourselves a favour and take the bold step of being TV free,(unless of course some of your friends are transvestites) it will open your mind.   Posted by goccibos, on 25-01-2008 10:39, Agree with Rustic, I have to use Sky Freeview because the anologue signal is so poor. Back along they gave me a months free access to all channels; after wasting an hour finding something to watch I resorted to BBC2. Pay £40 a month for the pleasure, Sky Plus, multi-room the WHOLE LOT. Guess what I watch? BB2 and Channel 4 (occassionally!). BUT! and this is BIG BUT. I rationalise it by saying ""If I can find one channel out of all 650 channels that has something INTERESTING or HILARIOUS on it when there is nothing on the usual 4, then it's worth the £40 a month. There is alot of crap on there, but when you find a nugget it's worth it. It's like the internet; 99.99999999999999% utter rubbish and 0.0000000000000000001% quality (of which this marvellous site is in that minority). Think of how much crap you have to trawl through on the internet for your £20 a month broadband fee??? My current justification for Sky is DAVE. If there is nothing on the other 649 channels then Dave will garuantee to satisfy. At the moment they appear to be re-running the entire catalogue of Bottom. Film your friends and cut it to a sound track - when you're a sad old git it'll cheer you up! Plus we can link to it from this website and show the best ones at the cinema. If you join Rustic Films you can hire their fabulous 3 chip camera cheaply for making pro-quality stuff. I've started watching TV programmes using the BBC iPlayer. They're available for seven days after the live broadcast. I can pretend I'm writing very important letters on the word proccessor, all the time viewing last night's MasterChef. Every reason to get rid of the TV, pay no license fee and watch for free. There is a difference. Watching TV is very passive as a sofa is involved, whereas it feels interactive on the PC sitting on a swivel desk chair. Outside of the UK globally anybody can watch the BBC TV Programmes on their computers for nothing.   Posted by Rosieo6, on 12-02-2008 11:40, Perhaps we should get some of our influential incomers to speak to their mates at BBC/Westminster and intercede on our behalf. Would be one change that a lot of people would be grateful for.(instead of moaning about the noisy cockeral/seagulls/business that has been here long before they chanced upon our community.)
