CRIME UPDATE 22 JAN E-mail

Crimes reported to us over the last 7 days include

• At approximately 3pm Tuesday 15th January a 150m roll of roofing felt was stolen from Travis Perkins.

• Overnight Wednesday 16th January a burglary occurred in the Gore Cross Business Park. In this incident numerous cooker hobs and similar items were stolen. If you have been offered any new or similar cooker items fro sale Pc 1994 Evans would like to hear from you. Again during the same incident a Nissan panel van was stolen from neighbouring premises in the trading estate.

• During the early evening of Friday 18th January a vehicle was stolen from the driveway of a property in the area of St Andrew’s road.

Image• At approximately 5am on Saturday 19th January arson occurred in the stairwell of a block of flats in Princess road. Cardboard and other items were set on fire. As a result a child’s pushchair was destroyed. I would ask that residents do not leave property or rubbish in these areas, thereby reducing the risk of a repeat occurrence of a similar incident. This situation could have resulted in the serious damage to property or risk of injury to residents. If anyone has any information that relates to this please contact PC 2337 Burt at Bridport.

• Shortly after midnight Friday 18th January criminal damage occurred, a window was smashed to a property in Barrack Street Bridport.

Other crimes have been reported over the same period of time, however in the interests and wishes of the victims and not to prejudice any investigations these will not be reported on.

Over the last 7 days the following arrests took place:

1x causing grievous bodily harm
3x causing actual bodily harm
2x common assault
1x using a false instrument
1x passion controlled drugs
1x refused roadside breath test [drink drive]

P.A.C.T Meeting

The next date for the Partners and Community Together [P.A.C.T] meeting will take place at 7.30pm Thursday 13th March 2008 in the marriage room at Mountfield in Bridport.

This again will be an opportunity for the Bridport community to raise issues of concern within the town and vote for the priorities to be tackled by the relevant lead agency.

The public who attended and braved the cold temperatures at the previous meeting voted on the following top 3 priorities:

• Underage drinking / responsible drinking
• Parking / traffic management in Victoria Grove
• Feasibility of CCTV in the area of St Michael’s Lane

If you have issues that the P.A.C.T panel consisting of the WDDC, Town Council, Police and Youth services. Other agencies are key members of the process and will be involved should a priority be deemed a responsibility for their organisation.

 BRIDPORT POLICE CHARITY BALL

I would like to thank everyone in Bridport who supported the Police Charity Ball, held on Friday November 24th at Freshwater Holiday Park.  I think everyone present would agree what a fantastic evening this was.

Over 160 people danced the night away to fabulous music from local band The Sidekicks, in a venue transformed by video projections and illuminated flags to create a real party atmosphere.

Perhaps the highlight of the evening for some was an animated video of the local constabulary being put through their paces on the dancefloor! Titled ‘Everybody was Kung fu fighting’.  However, I’d personally like to thank all those who donated prizes for the auction and raffle, which included some fantastic celebrity endorsed items, which again helped us to raise over £1000 for local charities and other good causes.

Overall, the Ball was a great community event, and I’d like once again to thank everyone who came along and joined in the fun.

Date for the diary...

The date for the next ball is going to be Saturday 29th November 2008. So please come along and join in the fun – this is a community wide event aimed at raising money for local good causes.

If you have any information regarding the above offences or any other crimes, then please come forward and help us with our enquiries:  it may be your evidence, which successfully secures a conviction.  Instead of accepting that crime is part of the Bridport society, let’s give the courts the facts and allow them to decide.

Contact the police station direct, or speak to Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111 – all calls will be treated in confidence
