Hello all, I Would just like to comment on some of the comments in various places on Bridport Radio. Fair play to have a fit about what was written in the Telegraph or whatever but I think that when comments are written by 'the other side' then why does it have to be Met with a hail of abuse? I have written several comments on different subjects and while not thick I am not as literate as some or as well informed. Two people in particular seem to delight in making nasty comments.one will know 'exactly' who you are. I like the look and feel of this site as it is by local people (and newcomers who have bothered to look) and very tongue in cheek. Vent your spleen by all means but do not get personal. Thanks for all the fun and good points that have got me thinking.
Adam Edwards at the Sunday Telegraph has hammered the final nail into the coffin by not only plagiarising Vanessa Thorpe’s Notting Hill On Sea article, but by continuing to celebrate the area for all the wrong reasons! Again he refers to Hitchen and the mystery of the famous cinema patrons. He interviews a rep from Humberts who gleefully reports that 50% of house sales over the last year have been to Londoners.
While scanning the broad vista which is Bridport through my telescopic sights the other evening, I mused upon the idea of each Briport Radio Member posting their most favourite weblink, which hopefully should say something about their personality. With this in mind, I would like to submit the following link as my 'most favourite weblink of all time' so far. http://www.adgraphics.com/coffeewithjoe.html Yours ThE BaT (One Round One Kill).
Here are some new additions to our archve of images from Bridports past. Have you got any pictures from bygone days that you would like to share? Or if you have any information about the pictures published here let us know. Please remember that the copyright for these pictures belongs to their respective owners and they should not be used without prior permission.
Sorry got more bad news for you. WDDC is thinking of you by selling off yet another site in bradpole (WDDC Planning no 1/W/07/000341) just so they can get more money to spend wastefully and keep you youngsters out of ever owning a property. More good news for second home grockles, they will be 3 bedrooms so will be able to charge nice high rents from you youngsters or if you are lucky to be unemployed (Polish got your job) the government will pay the inflated rents.
I don't know what you youngsters are hanging on here for cos wddc and the grockles don't want you in THEIR town. The town is for fairtrade tea, coffee and meals, bed by 10pm, get real, you're not wanted anymore, get out of town now! By the way I got 2 of you youngsters - one has taken the hint and gone - the other will soon have to go.
OR Why Bridport would like to flog Vanessa Thorpe all the to way to the sea. In a recent article about the culturally feisty seaside town of Bridport. Vanessa Thorpe, the Observer’s “arts and media correspondent”, offended just about every element of the gloriously diverse town she was attempting to praise. By opening the article with tawdry, ill-informed, name-dropping exercise she demonstrates that she clearly has missed the point about what makes Bridport rather special. The town doesn’t give a frothy coffee about celebrity.
26 February 2007 DORSET POLICE WELCOMES CHANGE IN MOBILE PHONE LEGISLATION
Dorset Police has today, Monday, welcomed the change in legislation for using a hand-held mobile phone while driving. As of midnight tonight, Tuesday 27 February 2007, the penalty for driving while using a hand held mobile phone will increase to three penalty points and a £60 fine. Are you finding it hard to find reasonably priced accommodation? Is buying a house at these inflated prices out of the question? Have our villages and local services suffered at the hands of 'weekenders'? Do you think champagne socialist Billy Bragg and other celebrities incomers are any good for the area? Is the self absorbed Hugh Fearnley making the public perception of Dorset a bunch of carrot crunchers? Reproduced below is an article from the Observer that makes my Bridportian blood boil.
Finally the West of England has something to celebrate! We are top of the debt league tables in U.K. P.L.C. Towns such as Torquay, Weymouth, Bridport, Truro, Plymouth and everytown in-between have something to celebrate! You are more likely to go t*ts up if you live in these terrific West Country places. The huge number of people unable to repay their debt hit an all time high last year, as over 100,000 people went bust. The maps show the main areas where people are struggling to make it all meet, and where the financial stress and strain might take it’s toll in the future.
Dorwest Herbs recently donated the first prize of an iPod Nano into the nurses draw which was run as part of Veterinary Nursing Day, organised by the publication Veterinary Nursing Journal based in the UK. The iPod was won by nurses at Animals Asia, a Hong Kong-based charity, dedicated to ending cruelty and restoring respect for all animals in Asia. This charity works hard to find solutions to many issues that are close to the heart of both Dorwest Herbs and the general public in the UK. These include a project to end bear farming in China, providing 300 animal therapy dogs across Asia, finding ways to end the practice of dog and cat eating through cultural understanding and providing emergency aid to animals of all types across the Asian continent.
Winning veterinary nurses at the Animal Aid hospital in Hong Kong
The prize of the iPod was received with delight by the veterinary nurses at the charity. Beverley Jane Elmer, the Senior Veterinary Nurse at the Animals Asia Foundation said “The most important thing for us nurses, working in rural China, is that our profession is acknowledged and appreciated from afar. This is so important for veterinary nurses who want to dedicate their care and professionalism to a cause so worthy, but so far away from home, in often very trying and difficult circumstances. We try, as a Foundation, to provide them with as many creature comforts as possible and the iPod has added to that immensely. Bear surgeries are often long, so the nurses are already talking about the purchase of some fine speakers for a little background music to help them through the day and are very grateful to Dorwest Herbs for their generous donation of this prize.”
Roly Boughton, Promotions Manager at Dorwest, said “We are delighted to have been involved in the Veterinary Nurses Day events. We are always pleased to help veterinary nurses in promoting their work, knowing what an important contribution they make to the care of all animals in veterinary practices all over the world. It is especially good to know that the prize went to such a worthwhile charity doing an important job in what must sometimes be difficult circumstances.”
