On Thursday 6 December 2007 Dorset Police received provisional details of the financial support it will receive from the Government for the next three years and it is the lowest increase given to any force around the country.

A balloon carrying Mr Walter Powell (MP for Malmsbury) was involved in a fatal disaster over The English Channel near Bridport. The War Department had loaned the balloon to the Meteorological Society who used it to take observations of the atmosphere. After taking off near Bath the crew were forced to make a landing on the cliffs between Eype and Bridport when disaster struck.
UPDATE Tues 6th Nov '07: Unconfirmed reports of Ms Mann being found in the sea off Burton Bradstock. She had apparently driven her car off the cliff.
5 November 2007 Police in Bridport are appealing for the public’s helping in finding a young woman who has gone missing while enjoying a night out in the town.
Victoria Jane Mann, aged 26, from Bridport, was last seen in her blue Ford KA3 car, registration number V983 PER, outside the King’s Head public house at Bradpole – on the northern outskirts of Bridport – at around 10.30pm on Saturday, 27 October 2007.

More than 50,000 drivers have been wrongly flashed by the speed camera in Chideock because the road used to mark out a 30mph zone doesn't exist. Every motorist who has been caught by the camera is now being urged to claim back their fines which may be worth more than three million pounds (and over 150,000 penalty points). Dorchester Crown Court overturned lorry driver Alan Dawes conviction for doing 41mph in the 30mph zone of the A35 through Chideock where there are no streetlights.
