CRIME UPDATE 30 OCT E-mail

Crimes were reported to us recently included;

A number of shed and outhouse burglaries have recently occurred in Bridport and the surrounding areas.  During these burglaries power tools and electrical goods have been stolen. Police would be grateful for any information relating to these incidents or would like to be informed if any such items have been offered for sale.

Other crimes of note include damage to unattended vehicles in the area, these occurred overnight 23rd October in the vicinity of North Allington. Another damage occurred to a stationary motor vehicle, this occurred 29th October.

Mobility Scooters

During the first PACT panel meeting in September a number of issues were raised one included the use of mobility scooters in the area.

Mobility Scooter Regulations - Where Can They be Used?

ImageTYPES OF CLASS 2 SCOOTERS

Legally these scooters can travel up to 6.4kph (4mph) on pavements and are allowed on the road to cross from one side of the road to the other.

TYPES OF CLASS 3 VEHICLES

The main difference between Class 3 and Class 2 vehicles is that Class 3 vehicles tend to be larger and can be used on the roads where they can travel up to 12.8kph (8mph). It is usually possible to drive at 6.4 kph (4mph) and switch to 12.8kph (8mph).

Class 3 vehicle users do not require a driving license but should obey the Highway Code at all times. This includes complying with relevant eyesight requirements and not driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs etc.

Class 3 vehicles are not allowed on motorways, bicycle tracks or bus/cycle lanes.

Although legally allowed on dual carriageways, this is not recommended.

Speed

Two speed settings, usually changed by a switch.

12.8kph - maximum speed - Permitted only on the road. Not for use on the pavement or footpath.
6.4kph - 4mph maximum speed - Permitted on the pavement or footpath.

Lights/indicators/horn/rear view mirror/rear reflectors
The law requires class 3 vehicles to be fitted with all these features.

Flashing beacon

Optional - can be used when driving on the road to warn other road users of their presence, and must be used if driving on a dual carriageway although this is not recommended.

Insurance is not legally required for any powered vehicle in either category, Class 2 for pavement use or Class 3 for pavement and road use.

It is recommended that the purchaser have at least public liability Insurance, covering accidental damage to other people and property.

1 x theft from person
1 x sexual assault
1 x provoking violence

If you have any information regarding the above offences or any other crimes, then please come forward and help us with our enquiries:  it may be your evidence, which successfully secures a conviction.  Instead of accepting that crime is part of the Bridport society, let’s give the courts the facts and allow them to decide.

BRIDPORT POLICE CHARITY BALL

The date is getting closer to the Police Charity Ball and I’d like to invite Bridport community to participate in the event, which will be held on Saturday November 24th at Freshwater Holiday Park from 730pm.

Last year over 180 people danced the night away to fabulous music from local band The Sidekicks, in a venue transformed by a local video projections artist and illuminated flags to create a real party atmosphere.  Over a £1000 was raised for local good causes, including children’s nurseries, youth projects, elderly and disabled drop in centres.

I’d personally like to thank all those who donated prizes for the auction and raffle and ask that any similar donations would gratefully received to raise money once again.

The ball is a great community event, and I’d like once again to thank everyone who came along last year and joined us again the fun and to come along again. Tickets are on sale at the tourist information office in Bridport and at Bridport Police station priced at £21. The band again will be the Sidekicks and more slapstick video projections are promised.

POLICE SLOW E-mail

Police Slow!...AND ANOTHER THING  What's with those signs you see on roads where an accident has occurred, saying "Police slow". Anyone who has had anything stolen from a car radio to your home contents knows that the police are slow. They don't have to advertise the fact!
