LUST FOR LIGHT E-mail

ImageDorset based artist Stephen John Bishop is making a welcome return to The Allsop Gallery at the Bridport Arts Centre. The exhibition "Lust for Light" showcases this talented artist's latest work. Ranging from small intimate oil paintings to larger scale explorations of light in the context of Dorset's land and seascapes. There is a Special Preview Day open to the public on Whitsun Bank Holiday Monday 28th May 2007, 10.00 am - 4.00 pm. A chance to be the first to see the work and to meet the artist in person. DEEP SEA FUN E-mail

ImageOn Saturday 2 June  2007 at 11am Bridport Arts Centre have a children’s show called The Rainbow Fish. 

The Rainbow Fish is the most beautiful fish in the ocean.  However, she is proud and vain.  None of the other fish want to be her friend until she learns to give away some of her most prized possessions.

Come along and meet the Rainbow Fish in her glittering underwater paradise. Be whisked away on a deep-sea adventure as the storytellers use live music and puppetry to bring this enchanting tale to life.

The show is suitable for families and children aged 4+ years and tickets are available from the box office on 01308 424204.

OPEN STUDIOS E-mail

ImageA wide selection of artists are opening their studios on the May Bank Holiday, at St Michaels Studios in Bridport. One of the artists opening his studio will be Ian Dunn, who will be showing the first in a new series of large abstract paintings. Ian says, “My principle influences include the American painters of the 20th Century, such as Albers, Newman and Rothko.”

CRIME UPDATE 22 MAY E-mail

Over the last 7 days a number of crimes were reported to us from around the area, these include:

• A trailer was removed and stolen when the owner left in St Andrew’s road it at approximately 6.30pm on Tuesday 15th May.

• A number of cars had damage to them when they were parked in South St. Wing mirrors; car radio and other parts of the bodywork were damaged. This occurred in the early hours of Wednesday 16th May.

• During the same period of time damage also occurred to a parked vehicle in Folly Mill lane, when a brick or similar object was thrown through the driver’s side window.

• Between Tuesday 15th to Thursday 17th an unattended vehicle in St Michael’s trading estate had the bonnet forced open and the battery removed and stolen.

• Damage occurred at approximately 1pm on Thursday 17th May when arson occurred in the men’s toilets adjacent to the ‘Old Watch’ house café, West Bay.

• The ‘Bob the Builder’ Children’s ride in the entrance Foyer of Morrison’s had the cash stolen after coin slot had been tampered with, this occurred on Friday 18th May.

• An opportunist thief stole a laptop from the dining area of the Electric Palace cinema at approximately 4.45pm on Friday 18th May.

• At approximately 10pm on Saturday 19th May an unprovoked attack occurred in the Skilling Hill road area of town. Two males’ one aged 19yrs were attacked by a larger group of approximately 6 to 7 in number.
 
• Damage occurred to the premise ‘Cards and Things’ in East street. Glass was smashed and damage to the aluminium frame occurred between Saturday 19th and Monday 21st May.

• Theft and damage occurred to motor vehicles this occurred overnight Monday 21st May in the Bradpole area of town. A rental van had its tyres slashed and a Vauxhall Corsa had the stereo equipment stolen.

Other crimes have been reported over the same period. To protect the wishes of the victims, and not prejudice any ongoing investigations these will not be reported.

Theft

An antique Cretan style pot was stolen from an address in the Pymore area. It is of terracotta colour and is approximately 2ft high. The theft happened in the early hours of Saturday 5th May. The pot is of great sentimental value and is very distictinctive.

Burglary

A burglary occurred in the area Pasture Way, Bridport. Dwelling was broken into overnight Thursday 10th May. Large amounts of cash namely pound coins were taken along with numerous bottles of spirits. I would ask that if anyone has been approached to exchange high large numbers pound coins for notes in the last few weeks to contact PC 2441 Atlinson

Arrests

Over the same period 13 arrests were made:

2x Theft shoplifting
2x Theft of a conveyance
1x Breach of post charge conditions
1x Criminal damage
1xCommon assault
1x Possession drugs with intent to supply
5x Warrant failing to appear in court

If you have any information regarding the above offences or any other crimes, then please come forward and help us with our enquiries:  it may be your evidence, which successfully secures a conviction.  Instead of accepting that crime is part of the Bridport society, let’s give the courts the facts and allow them to decide.
