Welcome to the St
Catherines pre-school web site
The
pre-school is sited within the grounds of St Catherine's catholic
primary school. It has been in existence since 1995 when Sr
Anna's sessions at the Convent of the Visitation in Pymore Road (now
demolished and replaced by housing) ceased at very short notice.
With the help of the headteacher of St Catherine's and the governors
at the time an agreement was entered into for the use of the pavilion,
previously used as a changing room and spill over area for the school,
to become the home of St Catherine's pre-school.
We offer
a small (registered for 12 places), friendly, lively and safe
environment for 3 and 4 years olds, the majority of whom will move onto St Catherine's
school. Details of the curriculum can found by selecting
'Curriculum' on the left hand menu. The pre-school has a garden for the children to play in
as well as being able to plant and watch things grow.
The
pavilion is nearing the end of it's useful life so a working party has
been set up, consisting of staff from the pre-school and school and
members of the management committee to manage the ongoing project of
replacing our building. We hope to build an environmentally
friendly building. Our first fundraising event was a table top
sale and many more events are planned so please look out for them and
give this project your support. Anyone who can offer sponsorship
or skills to help us with this project would be welcomed, click on the
Contact us button opposite for our contact details.
There is a
Parent and Tots session on Fridays during term time from 1.00 to 2.45
pm. Children must be accompanied by a parent or carer. There is a
charge of £1.75 for the first child and 50p for additional children.
This includes a tea or coffee for the adult, milk or water for the
child and a healthy snack such as fruit or breadstick. Activities may
include painting, sticking, sand, puzzles, playdough, outdoor play in
the garden and treasure basket play. The session is small and very
friendly and newcomers are always welcome.

T-shirts can be
purchased for £3 or sweatshirts for £6 from pre-school.
Please remember we
ask for a 10p per child per session contribution for fruit.
We await
notification from OFSTED that we can change our registration from
children starting with us from 3years to 2 years 9 months.
This will have an effect on the number of places we can offer
dropping from 12 to 10 but will bring us in line with all other
local pre-schools.
