Vote for me in the coming Mayoral elections and I will promise zero business rates on shops with less than three branches and treble for those with more than three branches. Simple solutions from your local simpleton. Cameras everywhere......

Glad I don't run a chain store. I'd want to avoid those treble zero business rates. Not sure why we need all these 'whole food' shops. I was going to joke about all my food being whole, but then realised most of it is sliced or chopped in some way. Perhaps there is a need after all. I already miss Paperchain, and that embarrassing moment when you discover that you don't like anything but you can't walk past the nice old lady on the till without buying anything. The one over the road isn't the same, you just don't get the same guilt trip.

I Have seen them bending that rule(denzelpob) re stocking in somerfields for things.. The guy who owns Wetherspoons apparently called them after a teacher at school who told him he would never make anything of his life......

Lilliputs, a sort of Fenwicks (bought a Duffle Coat there in the 80's, still going strong) V Humphreys without the blokes stuff. Any business folk here know how the betting machines place keeps going, it's always empty? tax dodge??

or something rather like it (goccibos 24) they heat the great outdoors too... and men in suits and briefcase in and out... sort of reminds me of the empty shoe shops on the lower east side (New York) owned by Italian gentlemen?

I did write a confirm or deny about the amusement arcade mentioning maffia and triads etc along with money laundering so I think the ed censored it. It has to be a scam.

Just for the record i think that the business is legit and by no means used by Dorset's drug barons, who I don't know, obviously, cough. And; as a str8 male just tipping 40 why do I have the urge to click on the gay partnerships ad at the bottom (HAHAHA) of the page?

It seems impossible to get decent fish&chips in Bridport. Two outlets ( the same firm) - I have done business with both shops, but have been sadly disappointed with the fare. I have now given up. West Bay kiosks are hit & miss - and I don't always have half an hour to wait - the shop opposite the camping site seems to be the best of a bad lot. Hurrah for the kebab shop.

Agree P Goat (28) Having waited for the one in Kings St to go catch the fish, cook it etc I got it back home a half cooked melting mess.....people will turn away. Top tip have Chinese chips (from Chinese restaurants) late at night, just have an edge of spice umm, mind you a few previous beers may have helped the flavour!

You must be ""avin a laugh"" pymore goat, Longs in king street is great, the fact that you have to wait while they cook it fresh seems to add to the experience, and I hardly think it propper to expect fish and chips from a kebab shop.

Dear Pymore Goat, although the chippy's in Bridport are run like a Formula One pit crew if you have a problem with the quality you could always ask the boss to change your fare, I have on one occasion had to ask Pauline to exchange my small battered fish, I felt like Oliver asking Mr Bumble for more, Pauline did not hesitate and apologised without reservation, I was a tremblin in me boots! Although it may lack rustic chip shop charm it is consistently good, a little tip for you, DO NOT TURN UP FOR AN EAT-IN WITHOUT A RESERVATION! She will eat you!!!! Cameras everywhere....

Well Rustic, I shall give the another go - but I haven't been impressed with their fare so far.I have found their fish and chips weak and greasy.

will i? wont i? (like a chip)the suspense is killing me!! Not in Bridport (i know) but who has tried the HFW shop in Ax? (apparently he is having trouble paying his staff, some forty I believe) and was unceremoniously asked to leave Tesco's (filming without prior arrangement..... ) asking punters why they were buying non free range chickens

Posted by Denzlepob_at_work, on 25-10-2007 15:16,
I went in there today, looked quite busy, the punters were queuing up for the canteen at the back of the shop, £10 chickens, bloody hell, hard to taste the difference, I would love to not shop in Tescos but A TENNER jeez. There was a bloke selling elder cordial and the chef was serving steak and mushrooms on toast, why doesn't Denzille De Ville do a review?

I think Longs do some of the best chips I have ever tasted. Their fish and sausages are sometimes a bit greasy tho, also Bridport Kebabs for the best chilli sauce ever (not necessarily for the fish and chips, but excellent on a chicken Kebab!)

i would reccomend mark the hairdresser in south street for his no nonsense approach to stroppy children, rude grockles & other pompus pratts who expect us all to kiss their a**es for being rude to us locals! punch&judy bakery for best westcountry pasties outside of cornwall & of coarse derek & allans cd/dvd stall for their massive range of discount stock & always freindly! put all this together with stomping dave allen in buckydoo square, a recipe for the perfect saturday !!

Mark, the barber in South Street, probably deserves a thread all of his own. He is indeed a curious chap. Bolshie/rude and as camp as Christmas - although these days it's a result to find him open.

Posted by chattykatty, on 05-11-2007 21:59,
Pauline told me she couldn't take my order 'cos had a coach party coming in when I tried to phone through an order for fish & chips - do they want the trade or not? Mark the barber is a darling - I worked with him many years ago and what you see is what you get with Mark

Posted by Rustic, on 06-11-2007 04:45,
Although Mark the barbers in south street is amusing, with the endless chattering gossip and the enigma of being both a married father and appearing to be a bit ""light on his feet"", what lets it down is that he isn't much of a barber. The last time I made use of his salon I came out looking like he had attacked my head with a blunt strimmer and to make matters worse he has the Daily Mail for his customers to peruse whilst waiting for the chop. Love the shoe shop next door though, pricey but top quality.

I haven't paid for a hair cut since Jack Abbot died. He put you in the chair wrapped up, pumped up, buzz cut, straight edge razor on the sideburns, soft brush and talcum dust down, wipped the cloth away, mirror out ""How's that then sir?"" ""It's very nice Jack"" I replied ""Can you do the other side exactly the same please?""
