Don't get me wrong - I support our Police, really. What I do not understand is why it took four Police Cars to deal with one drunk driver.. one car stopped the car and within five minutes the whole street was blocked with the others. The driver was not being difficult, just obviously drunk. So as far as I could see, several hours of Police time were wasted just standing and watching..This probably why if you want the Police in a hurry .. you have to wait your turn.. Perhaps that was the highlight of the night? and we are a realy crime free zone.

Stand up to those who make life miserable for others... if you witness a crime, tell the Police. Let them use you as a witness. People are getting away with far too much through lack of evidence. Stand up and be counted. The Police cannot do it all themselves, we need to support the boys and girls in blue. Remember, one day you may need them.

an honorable sentiment (mwb 23) but what do you do when giving evidence actually creates problems for you and your family.. bricks through windows.. attack of family members etc, as I am afraid to say happens in this little town, and the police know of this.... no names.. will let you guess.

Tuzo, I take on board your concerns. It's a difficult one I know. The choice however difficult is to stand back and let the moronic thugs get away with it or stand together as a community and deal with these problems.

Trouble being tht 'the community' has seen nothing when you get your head kicked in in front of numerous witnesses and even if you can prove you were elsewhere when the local yobbo says you assaulted him it cuts no ice.when you know a hundred percent who did it nothing happens, take a photo and you are done for violating human rights of the toerag.innocent until proven guilty only applies to the lawless not joe public!

A simple solution to all the problems of so-called minor crime in this & other towns would be to de-criminalise heroin use as was government policy not so far back in the past in the UK. If heroin users ( of which there are an inordinate amount in this small country town ) could attend a prescribing clinic for their daily 'dose' then it would have many positive affects. 1/ the incidence of shoplifting & related crimes would fall exponentially as the addicts would have no need to feed their habits in this way 2/ having to take the drug in a clinical environment would take away much of the mystique in volved in taking the drug therefore discouraging future addicts from trying the drug 3/ if taken in a clinical environment this would eliminate the need to share needles & suchlike thereby saving the already over-stretched NHS valuable funds. I believe that this programme has been piloted in various cities in the UK recently with some success. Isn't it time that that the government woke up to the fact that drug abuse is a way of life now for millions of people, both young & old & living in rural & urban areas.I think it is about time that something other than the 'zero tolerance' approach was looked into? This would benefit both the drug users & the rest of the law abiding citizens of this country. The people of this rather ignorant at times backwater of a town should face up to the fact that this town is now known as 'bagport' to outsiders! People throughout history have taken narcotics for whatever reason & by criminalising a large percentage of our population we are storing up trouble for the future. To sumarise the government is happy to make taxes on the two greatest killers in our society, alcohol & tobacco,( which by the way kill more people put together than all the illegal drugs in total) so why not narcotics as well ( which by the way kill a fraction of the people that these so-called government sponsored drugs do! ) I would be pleased to hear comments on this issue as I'm sure it has affected either you the reader or someone close to you?
