Calling all Artists/tattooists/and creatives. We are lucky enough to have the world famous Filete painter Alfredo Genovese coming to teach an 8 hour introductory painting course in 'Filete Porteno' the flamboyantly emotive Sign Art of Argentina, in our wee town of Bridders.  Alfredo's work is absolutely stunning.  He has worked for the likes of Coca Cola, Nike, Converse, Evian, Kimberley Clark to name but a few and has been teaching for the past 20 years where he lives and works in Buenos Aires.

No Country for Old Albion E-mail
ImageDorset-based record label ‘Alien Frequencies’ is hosting a special night of live music and handmade films in Bridport on Friday 3rd September from 7pm until late at St Michaels Art & Vintage Quarter, Bridport, DT6 3RR. This will be the first time that all of the label’s acts have appeared on the same bill, and what better setting than amidst the vintage furniture, antiques and paraphernalia at St Michael's. Red Brick Café, Jalopy Pizza & Old Albion Bar will be open.

Speed Camera Set on Fire E-mail
A speed camera has been set alight on a main road through a west Dorset village at the centre of a row over heavy traffic congestion. Fire crews were called to the A35 in Chideock, near Bridport, in the early hours after several calls from drivers. A tyre had been put over the speed camera and set alight.

Bridport Hat Festival E-mail

The three-day event due to be held in September aims to be the world¹s biggest celebration of headwear and millinery. The plans have already excited some of the industry's biggest players with many agreeing to support the fledgling long weekend.

Spirit of Bridport E-mail

Spirit of BridportA campaign has been launched to restore The Spirit of Bridport on signs welcoming visitors to the town.

The image of the flaxen-haired woman sitting on a throne is a detail from a mural in Bridport Town Hall painted by Fra. Newbery, a founder of the renowned Glasgow School of Art. It was later adapted for the town road signs post-war in the 1950s or 60s by George Biles, whose murals adorn The Electric Palace foyer.

Bridport Volcano E-mail
ImageSmoke and ash continues to spew forth from the Comers Hill eruption causing widespread disruption to holidaymakers travelling through Chideock and the Marshwood Vale. Three vehicles queued for 8 minutes as visibility on the A35 trunk road was reduced by clouds of acrid volcanic chunder.

Cider Riot E-mail

ImageTax on most alcoholic drinks will rise by two per cent above inflation from midnight on Sunday 28/3/10. Cider drinkers were given the most punishing “vice tax” as the Chancellor unveiled a 10 per cent rise. The price of a 750ml bottle of sparkling cider will go up by 9p. Mr Darling said the move addressed a “long-standing anomaly” whereby cider attracted less duty.
