Blood Donors Needed in Bridport – Make it Your New Year Resolution to Save a Life
The NHS Blood and Transplant service (NHSBT) is urging people in Bridport to think about making 2012 the year that they take that step from thinking about donating to doing it.
Chief executive Lynda Hamlyn said: “We are now preparing for 2012, when so many national and international events such as the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the European Football championships and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee will increase the challenge to maintain our vital services.
“In the meantime I would ask blood donors to please continue to donate through the winter despite the challenges the weather can sometimes pose. And I would ask anyone who believes in organ donation to join the NHS Organ Donor Register and make their wishes known to their friends and family.”
The service supplies blood for soldiers in Afghanistan, provides information and support, helps scientific advances in transfusion and transplantation and works continuously to raise awareness of the importance of donation and the difference it can make to people’s lives.
“Our core purpose is to save and improve patients' lives,” said Ms Hamlyn.
NHSBT rely entirely on registered donors to maintain vital stocks of all blood types - used every day to improve and even save lives - whether for those involved in serious accidents, battling illnesses or about to undergo important operations.
